With the election, living in a major city, Tupac Bin Laden putting out more videos and my fulltime paranoia, I have been staying on Full for a week or so now.

Am I the only one on Severe Alert???

Yes.

I fill up the car every Sunday (10cent off permium)

I got extra gas at the house and the Trans Am is full in the shed,

BTW I have to run 93 octane (14MPG on 87, 20mpg on 93)

probably not a good thing..

I'm stayin' full these days but not because of OBL or the elections. I'm more interested in what may go down between Israel and Iran in the next month or so.

*yawn*

Alert? What alert?

<---only needs enough gas to make it home.

Full tank, loaded mags, food and clothes boxed.

Then again, this isn't too hard to do... and worth the effort

And what more can you do with a full tank versus a half or quarter?
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 8:33:39 PM EDT
I traveled through NYC today with the gas tank 3/4ths full and felt perfectly fine. If SHTF here gas wouldn't be much of an issue, ammo would.

I'm just bein' a cheapskate. If Israel DOES go after the Iranian nuke facilities (And I "think" they will) the $1.97/gallon I'm payin' now will be a "Bargain" compared to what they'll be gettin' afterlol

When the SHTF, the first thing that happens is people start hoarding. Gas lines get very long and stations run out of gas. Same with food and batteries. I've seen all of these things happen during severe weather emergencies.

I made a 420 mile run today and filled up at 1/4 tank for $1.85. per gallon. I picked up three barrels I had threaded for F/H's.

True, but in the long run what does it save you? Standing in line for 3 days? 5 days?
My point is, the difference between always above 3/4 or always above 1/4 is not going to be an appreciable difference IN THE LONG RUN. If theres a 2 or 3 day gas shortage then yes, it will potentially make a difference. But, since any possible attack would cause more then a 2 or 3 day gas problem its rather inconsequencial I think.
While certainly not a bad idea, I think it would be far less hassle to just keep 3 or 4 gas cans in the garage filled up and rotate them every few months rather then stopping for 5 bucks in gas once a day. Same net effect, much less hassle.

$2.65 for 91 and that's the highest we can get.

I always keep the tank filled. My grandma taught me that when it gets below two thirds, you better fill up. On one car, that is in the garage and rarely used, I siphon for the boat or whatever, then drive it to refill. That way, I always have the newest gas in the car itself. It's been sitting a while, and since I haven't been using the boat, I'll have to siphon a lot out before winter to use the gas before it gets too old.

<---- gas gauge doesn't work

I do keep a spare can of gas in the bed of the truck though, so I don't think I'm too bad off.

If I have to go it gets me another 200-350 miles without gas.

I fill the car up when it hits half...I always fill the motorcycle up at the end of a ride though, so I have a full tank when I go out...
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 9:43:50 PM EDT
I fill the tank. I drive until it's empty. Then I repeat the process.
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 9:44:02 PM EDT
I fill up at 1/2 tank. The range of my F150 is only about 300 miles with ideal highway conditions so I'm not concerned about bugging out. In a bug out scenario, the roadways would be so jammed that I wouldn't get out of the county before I ran out of gas. I keep a full tank of gas in case of extended blackouts. For some reason, we lose power around here pretty frequently. All it's going to take is some freak winter storm and we could be days without heat or water (we have a well). The 15 gallons or so of gas in the shed will only run the genrator for so long. If the cars are full, that gives me about another 50 gallons. If that doesn't last long enough for them to restore power, it ain't coming back on.

I'm not a SHTF/bug out kind of guy. I prepare for more realistic scenarios.
