My wife's employer is adding AFLAC coverage as an option for the employee's. After sitting through the pitch from the insurance rep, my wife says they raised more questions than provided answers.

Anyone currently paying for this coverage? Anyone had to use it?

Had it when I was on the fire department. A lot of guys did. Most years, you'd just break even on the premium, maybe come out a little ahead.

However, one serious LOD injury, and you'd get a nice check when you finally went back to work and sent in your claim.

I have the accident Policy and the short term disability policy. I had to use them both in 2010 when I broke my leg severely. I recomend them highly. I can try to answer any questions when I am not on my phone.

I know 2 people who have had disablity coverage through AFLAC and MET Life and both of them say when you have to use it, they work overtime trying to figure out how to NOT send you YOUR money

they assign a case manager and that person sees to it that they keep you busy for 40 hours a week sending in forms and flooding your doctors with more forms and about 10 forms per week have to be signed by your doctors.

if you fail to do any of this they threaten to stop paying benefits

my friend paid for Met Life short term disabilty coverage for 10 years and had a bad non work related accident and cannot work

have ran him through the ringer over paying him

so just be aware of that

Wow, AFLAC must be a lot more strict with the disability coverage.

With the accident coverage, we never even talked to a human being; just drew up a cover letter stating the details of the injury and then faxed it in with all the supporting documentation.

Fews weeks later, you got a check.

yes, in both cases I am talking about short term disability for sure

they are no different than any other insurance company

the main goal is to take money IN and not pay it OUT

I talked with a guy who worked claims with a major insurer and he admitted that there is a unwritten policy of what he called

"deny and delay"

I have had it, and used it. Got burned fairly bad several years ago and had no problems at all with the claim. Fortunately, the company I worked for took care of filing everything for me. I realize it's not that simple for most people.

Sounds like a normal insurance company.

Allsnake is about the worst carrier out there in general. They are horrible to deal with on third party claims and they have been successfully sued, sanctioned, and heavily fined by regulators more than any company I'm aware of.

Every time I hear one of those stories, I recall exactly how many people actually read the contracts they sign, and I wonder.

I know someone who got cancer while he had the cancer coverage with aflac.

He was making a lot of money off of his treatment.

I had what I believe was the accident plan.  Basically they would give me a fixed dollar amount if I had an accident like fallimg off a ladder and breaking a bone.  Well it sounded great even though I had hoped to never use it.  I had an accident one day and had to go to the hospital.  I called them up and wanted to claim the money, well they mailed a sheet that needed to be filled out...by the doctor in the hospital.  It was a PITA trying to find the guy and the hospital refused to help me find him.  Never found himand never got paid.

If you decide to get that coverage you better ask them for some of those sheets so you can have the doctor fill it out immediately.

I had minor shoulder surgery and got about $5k out of the deal. Son broke his arm was about $400 or so. My policy does not cover workman's comp injuries but it is there in case I get hurt outside of work.

Allstate is the last fucking insurance company anyone should choose.
I don't know of a worse one among the large ones.
