I think this has been getting worse over the past few months. The AC has been loud for the past several months, but I chalked it up to some missing screws from when the AC was worked on while I was deployed 5 years ago. Well, this morning it was insanely loud, and sounded like a jackhammer, and where the motor attaches to the top grill was shaking like crazy. I turned the unit off, and opened the grill thinking the motor needed balancing and this is was I saw. It appears the fan blades aren't attached. I guess they should go in that lip area on the bottom nut thing. I'm assuming its just worn itself out and is now just floating on the stem, which would explain the loud rattling I heard this morning.

If you have a welder and you're really hard-up for money it could probably be welded to get by, but paying to have it welded up would exceed the cost of a new fan-blade so I would say just get the fan blade...
