This is pretty frustrating. The water pressure in my house is a mere trickle. I don't know anything about this stuff, as I am a new home owner. I have well water, a rainsoft water treatment system, and my well-x-trol water pressure thingy is at about 70psi. My guess is that maybe my water treatment system is clogged up.
Does anyone have any advice on how to approach this problem? I really need a shower.

Check the filter that is before the softener.

I bet this is the problem.

Turn the water off and, unscreww the bottom housing from the top.

My filters are pretty big. They don't look like they would unscrew. They look like great big oxygen tanks.  Is this what you are talking about?

No that is the softener. If you have a well, you ALMOST positively have a "prefilter" before the softener. I cant believe that the softener could stop up.

Regenerating doesn't clean dirt out it cleans the media so it will continue to absorb calcium. Water softeners regenerate automatically.

ETA:  +1 for back wash

Try a back wash of the filter system.  There should be a control valve on top of the tanks.  Unless they are very old, there should be a push button or dial setting to get it to back wash.

Also, they should be back washing automatically.  this is set to your water conditions and usually happens 1-3 times a week.  Perhaps the auto backwash feature is not working?

No, they're only a foot long or so. It should be one of the first things in the water line after it comes into your house, after the pump. Probably made of clear plastic, with a pleated paper filter.

Thanks alot guys. I pushed the bypass valve button and now we have huge water pressure. That seems to me to narrow down the problem considerably. I am setting the dial for a backwash right now, and will be looking for filters along the line.
I really appreciate the help. So does my wife and daughter, I smell pretty ripe.
