According to a poll done by the Unvirsity of New Hampshire 85% of non gun owners surveyed supported renewing the Fed AW ban. A believe the sample was around 500 surveyed- gun owners and non gunners alike in NH only. This was on some anti-gunner site as I was surfing the web. CRC

I doubt the people being surveyed even knew what the AW ban was.

So this would equate to approx. 50% of the population?

It was probably asked in a misleading way. Have you ever been polled by any of the big houses like Gallup? The questions are so skewed that you feel guilty about answering no.

you know it was, "assault weapons" just sounds bad.

It's impossible to comment without knowing what the question actually asked was or the distribution of where people who responded to the survey lived. The Portsmouth area (UNH is in Durham, near Portsmouth) has a large liberal/Democrat populace; if you mostly polled people in the northern half of the state where there are fewer transplanted Massholes the result would probably be different.

Not to worry! Did those people survey likely voters? Probably not. Politicos ignore segments of population who don't vote. Remember the people who put empty shoes on the U.S. Capitol steps which is suppose to represent those killed by gun fire? Well that stuff makes good news media sound bites, but politicos pretty ignore them because most dead people don't vote. Remember only 50% of the eligible voters actually register, and out of them only 50%(which is way too optimistic-for an oft-year election probably 30% would be a good number) actually vote. So actually only around 15-25% of the people actually vote. You know what throws fear into politicians heart? Organized opposition, read (NRA, GOA etc.).

Of course they would. They know little to nothing about guns other than what the media tells them, so "assualt weapon bans" sound sensible. What they need is some serious education about guns, bans and crime. These sensible people will see the truth soon enough. Now is the time to take a non-gun owning friend to the range with you "evil" black rifle.

A targeted poll no doubt. The voting population in NH is 30% dem, 30% rep and 40% ind. The gun culture here is firmly established and in no danger of going away. That said I'm sure the UNH poll targeted the ultra-liberal education establishment who are on their calling lists. Nearly everyone I know, rep.,ind., AND dem have guns in their home. It may also be that some really are unaware of what the AWB is and that it even exists. As you all know polls are used to influence opinion and not to gather info. Stepped-init
