according to a Marine recruiter I spoke with today. Oh yeah, it also doesn't matter what MOS you are in the Corps it just matters that you are a Marine.

I went into the recruiters office to inquire about enlisting into a Marine Reserve Infantry unit but was told no such thing. Didn't learn much else after 2 hours! Feeding me a line? I coulda swore I seen something about a Marine Reserve infantry unit in Iraq?

Is there a Marine Corps combat arms unit in either AL, GA, or FL? Say, Infantry, Recon, or armor? I'm pretty sure there isn't in FL but I coulda swore there was an infantry unit in bama.

If you want high speed in reserve component and you live in FL, look no further than 20th SFG(A) there is a entire Special Forces BN spread all over FL so a unit should be close to you. If you have specific questions you can email me.

I worked with some Marine reservists a few years ago.  In August, around 20 or so Marine reservists from NE Ohio area were killed in a massive IED attack, one of whom was my little brother's friend from high school.

So yes, there is a Marine Reserve, and yes, they're in Iraq.

A manager at my former job was a major in the Marine Reserve.  Squared away individual.  He was deployed over there for about a year, and is back now.

To be fair to the recruiter, tac45 asked spicifically  if there is a infantry reserve, not just a reserve in general.

There are plenty of Marine Corps Reserve units that are infantry and other combat arms.  The recruiter man is feeding you a line in order to get you to enlist in the active side so he can fill a quota.   If he lies to you about this, he might lie or coerce you into somehting else that can get you in trouble later on down the road in your career.  Find another recruiter.

Good luck and S/F.

Yes 80% of recruiters lie.  They shined me on a little.  but, all Marines are infantry, first.  All other MOS's come second.

He's full of it on both accounts.

There are Marines that become Navy SEALs, but nothing like 80%

There are reserve Infantry units. There are even reserve Recon and Force Recon units.

The way that I had heard the Marine/SEAL story wasn't that 80% of Navy SEALs are Marines, but that 80% of Marines who go through BUD/S graduate to become SEALs.  I'm not saying it's true, 'cause honestly I have no clue, but that is the way I heard the story told.
