On the eve of July Fourth, a strong majority of Americans—70 percent—still firmly support the Declaration of Independence, according to a public opinion survey by Rasmussen Reports.
...
up from 66% last year and up from 56% in 2008.

The other 30% should be asked what country of their choice they wanted to be dropped off at.

Sad thing is, not a lot of people UNDERSTAND the Declaration of Independence.

I would imagine a lot of people believe that government derives it's power from god, just like the monarchy used to.

Since 51% voted for BHO I don't see how it is mathematically possible that 70% support the Declaration of Independence.

I'm sure a scientific poll of all 57 states would confirm your suspicions.

This is a free country, the 30% are free to GTFO if they don't like it, maybe North Korea or Sudan, or Somlia would be a good place for them to relocate to, try that system on for size.
Me, I'm fine with the DOI, always have been.

I agree.....this poll is the result of too many who live sheltered lives here in the States....never exposed to anything other than what they know as their own little reality world.....military service where they live in other countries for years at a time would go a long way towards curing the liberal sickness...

Why is everyone surprised first go round most Americans did not support it. The founders were in the minority.  Food For Thought.

The other 30% recognize that we'd be in pretty much the same boat today if we stayed a colony, and Top Gear wouldn't make as much fun of us.

Yes, but if we had still been a British colony who would defeated England in WWI?    You really need to think these things through.

70% support it in a poll that requires them to answer questions on the phone while sitting on the couch watching America's Got Talent. If they ever had to get up and actually support it, the number is more like 2%.

I doubt most of the people polled even know the content of the Declaration, so the poll's pretty much meaningless.

At this point in time, it is more important that they believe in and support the Constitution.

If you read the Declaration, the parallels from back then and now are scary.  Just replace the King with .gov/politicians.

Most things they fought for have been slowly eroded away, the future of our Country has never been more bleak.  We are just

tax slaves that live on a bigger plantation.

The charter holders in London, Liverpool, and Birmingham thought of the colonials as a source of raw materials, and market for their manufactured goods. Our current overseers see us as a source of finance to further their political careers and support of their minions. Resistance to the current overseers is much more dangerous for them than the tyrants of the past. It threatens their very existence that is why they demean us so.
