I like the FN because the chrome-lined bore is easier to clean and the controlled feed action might be more reliable, but I heard the 700P has a smoother action and better trigger group. The new 700P's have detachable mags, so that's not an issue any more. What do you guys think?

I've looked at the FN and want one - bad. Out of the box accuracy, (with a chrome-lined bore!), good price. And to some extent, I like it because not everybody has one. If I had a spare $800, I'd get one. My $0.02.

I lost some business I was hoping for in NYC and last night decided to look into selling my PSS DM .308. Do you mean the 700 P is being sold with the detachable mag again? I've spent over $1000 to aquire and know I'd lose money. What would be a fair price to ask? It has the detachable mag, Trigger was set to a target weight of 12 oz., The stock was done in an urban (to me) camo- and bedded. 26" bbl. I haven't fired or modified it. The previous owner had the work done and fired about 200 rounds through it. He said he got about 1/2" with 168gr sierra amax. There is a lttle bluing missing from the corners of the mag, handling wear kind of thing, so it's obviously not NIB. I bought it off the SC Emporium. Is that a better place to sell or should I use Auctionarms?

Axel, I got the mag info from the web. It appears the new .308 700P's all have a 4-round detachable mag. For around $1,500 you can get the TWS package with bipod, case, and scope. Check it out. www.firinglineinc.com/html/d2m2700.html

I had heard that the detachable mags would jam occasionally and that most agencies avoided them because of this. Is this true? If so have the new dms been "fixed" ?

mattja - I think anyone could together that package for around $1300 .. atleast a couple hundred less. I figure $700 (rifle) + $175 (pelican) + $320 (leupold) + 80 (harris) + $50 (misc) $1325

I have handled both & found that the FN has a tighter & smoother action. The only thing that impressed me about the 700 was the accuracy. 1/2" 3 shot groups at 150yds. With a better action the FN should produce even tighter groups. BTW, I was using Hirtenberger ammo.
