6 Killed in Arizona As SUV Flees Deputies

PHOENIX (AP) - A stolen truck filled with suspected illegal immigrants sped away from deputies and rolled over at a busy intersection near an Army post Saturday, causing an 11-car crash that killed six people and seriously injured 15, sheriff's officials said.

Passengers were thrown from the truck as it struck a center median and began to spiral, hitting vehicles waiting at a turn lane, Deputy Chief Randy Redmond of the Sierra Vista Fire Department said. Investigators think the truck was traveling at about 90 mph when it lost control near Fort Huachuca in southeastern Arizona, he said.

At least 20 people were in the truck, Redmond said.

"This is the worst multiple fatality accident I've been on," Redmond said. "To have people pinned, the huge language barrier, it was really a horrible, horrible scene."

The Border Patrol is not allowed to pursue smugglers due to accidents like this.

On the other hand, Mexcian Consulate Officials have shown up at accident scene to coach the drivers.

Calm down there svtfast. Do you think Grivo_Mak was being just a little sarcastic? You have to brush up on your reading comprehension. You know, reading between the lines.

The only people to blame are the driver and the illegal immigrants for paying him to drive them across. Of course, the only people to pay for it are U.S. taxpayers, as usual. The medical bills alone are going to be a doozy.

Read about illegals heading down the wrong side of the street or highway to cause their pursuers to break off.

Same old story. When I used to live in LA, we used to bet about these large multi-fatality accidents. If you bet Mexicans were involved, 9 times out of 10 you won the bet.

...but only if they can still reach the government installed/maintained water stations. I would feel too guilty if they dehydrated.

I was lucky enough to get caught in the traffic snarl that was created as a result. I stopped counting AirMed helos after the 6th one took off.

The driver of the truck, of course, was well enough to bail and head for the hills prior to arrival of LE.

At my old PD in the midwest, unlicensed, uninsured, illegal drivers were the cause of over 60% of our traffic crashes and nearly 75% of our hit and runs.

No one wanted to work a dayshift on Sat Morning because the first 2 hours of the shift would be responding to hit and run or property damage accidents as a result of the drunken drivers wandering home.

In heavy downtown traffic on a friday night, I could close my eyes, point, open them and be looking at an unlicensed illegal driver. Literally. It's out of hand, and not just in AZ.
