I am looking to the future when I burn out the barrel on my 223 bolt gun. I was thinking of going to a 6.5 grendel or a 6.8 SPC for the rifle. I like the gun the way it is set up, so I figure putting a little bigger bullet in it might make it a bit more useful. I reload a lot so either caliber won't be a problem. I would just have to get the bolt face opened up right for either caliber right? Its a remington 700 XCR lRT.

Is it a tarded idea?

I'd be interested in such a beast....I looked for a 6.8 SPC bolt action years go without success.  Anyone know if it exists?  Or would opening up a rifle chambered in a smaller caliber be the only way?  A ruger gunsite scout chambered in either 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC would be awesome.  I wonder if you could use .223 mags with one chambered in 6.5.

Im not wanting to replace the rifle when the barrel is gone, I just want to rebarrel. I like the way it is set up.

Oh I'm getting one of these....if they're good.  I wonder if I can have it threaded for a suppressor.

ETA:Did I say suppressor?  Ha, I must be up too early without coffee.

Notice my state of residence.  I meant to say flash hider.

IIRC, there's a 160 grain RN bullet out there in 6.5 that would be super fun loaded to subsonic velocity, and you wouldn't have to worry about cycling the action in a bolt gun.

Probably a RemAge type swap, NSS maybe?

you will need a new bolt on top of figuring out how to feed the rounds.

Shit... I figured they'd feed the same.... I guess put a new 223 barrel on it at some point right?

Having shot a Howa Mini Action in 223 I can say they feel fantastic, great smooth action, great trigger, solid quality build. Having one in 6.5G would be a hoot.

CZ does a 527 in 6.5G but I have not shot one so I cannot comment on it.

Don't see the point.  If I want a 6.5 that doesn't have to fit in a standard AR I'd just go bigger.

Meh, at some point shooting becomes about fun.  Why burn all the powder and muzzle blast if you just want to shoot paper, plink, or hunt small critters?  Why not get both?

If you are a reloader, I'd suggest something like the 6 AR turbo.  Maybe the FatRat.

6.5G is a compromise for use in an AR.  If not in an AR, why compromise?

That said, I love the 6.5G.  Own two.

It uses a x39 bolt face.

Don't know.  Its going to be less than the 6.5G though.

I'd suggest its going to be between the 6.5g and the 6mmPPC.

Shooting RE-15 and 105's thru a 6mmAR turbo has got to be easier on the barrel than N-133/68 or 70's thru the 6mm ppc.
