That's 13% of ALL girls at the school.

65 Girls At Area School Pregnant

School To Unveil Three-Prong Program

POSTED: 12:30 pm EDT August 23, 2005

CANTON, Ohio -- There are 490 female students at Timken High School, and 65 are pregnant, according to a recent report in the Canton Repository.

The article reported that some would say that movies, TV, videogames, lazy parents and lax discipline may all be to blame.

School officials are not sure they what has caused so many pregnancies, but in response to them, the school is launching a three-prong educational program to address pregnancy, prevention and parenting.

The newspaper also reported that students will face mounting tensions created by unplanned child-rearing responsibilities, causing students to quit school and plan for a GED. This will make it difficult for the Canton City School District to shake its academic watch designation by the state.

According to the Canton Health Department, statistics through July show that 104 of the 586 babies born to Canton residents in Aultman Hospital and Mercy Medical Center had mothers between 11 and 19.

The newspaper reports that the non-Canton rate was 7 percent. Canton was 15 percent.

It's only because the money being paid for fixing their buck teeth is not being spent on condoms or abortions.

Yeah, but probably only a small fraction of those are REALLY pregnant. The majority are probably just a LITTLE pregnant.

In other news, that school's football team really sucks. It seems that the players are too mellow and not mean or angry enough to be good football players.

I'm not familiar with that part of OHio, but what's economic status, and the general racial mix of the populaton.

More evidence of the benefits of 40+ years of liberal social engineering.

Have no fear. 64 of the babies will probably be killed off anyway.

Canton - alot like Cleveland, but smaller.

These aren't any overall-wearing farmers, these are ghetto dwellers.

See! Its Bush and Dick out to convert everyone to compassionate conservativism, take away women's rights to vote and have abortions, get high schoolers pregnant, and make everyone go to church every Sunday! The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is real!!!

Teen pregnancy rates have fallen nationwide, though. Makes this case all the more strange.

Remember that Georgia junior high school that had a massive outbreak of venereal diseases like syphillis and chlymidia about 10 years ago?

Damn straight.

Hey.... it feels good so who's to tell you not to do it right? I'm sure they never heard of condoms before so I'll bet that education the school gives 'em will whip that right into shape.

I graduated in 1980. There wasn't a single girl in my class who was known to be pregnant. My class was under 100, but some where over 80.

I'd like to know why it's all ok now?

In the end times people will behave worse & worse, they will become lovers of themselves, & invent new ways of doing evil.

When I went to High School almost every kid I knew that was capable of being sexual active was sexually active. I only knew one girl who got pregnant.

Now I do notice that pregnancy is a LOT more common today than it was 20 years ago. I can't imagine that kids are somehow having MORE sex than we did. But they sure as hell are getting pregnant more often.

And we had sex ed back then too so I don't think that is the reason for increased pregnancy.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Not THAT!!!!!

ANYTHING but THAT!!!

School officials can teach them all about oral sex, anal sex, pass out condoms, print flyers and booklets with "safe-sex" pictures and instructions and even provide birth-control pills and brochures from Planned Parenthood... but to even SUGGEST that kids go to church is a violation of their constitutional rights and an abomination of Church/State separation, dontchaknow?

When I was little, I had a conversation with the priest at church,

me: my uncle and aunt only have 2 kids and there are 7 of us in my family, when it comes time to marry, can I choose how many kids I want?

priest: no, God will determine how many kids you may have.

me: are you sure Father?

priest: yes son, now go to the confessional box

me: why, I didn't do anything

when I graduated in 88' from norman high, there were 8 girls that were pregnant or had had children ( out of a class of 400 or so), one had had three by that time, by 95' there were so many that norman public school system instituted a program ( small steps ) to provide childcare so that the school girls could continue to go to school and graduate, it was located off campus, across the street from the high school, since that time it has been expanded several times to make accomadations, its a hell of a thing for the school system to have to deal with since the towns population is around 95k, and every year the girls are getting younger and younger, some are just in the 7th grade.

I've noticed quite a number of people my age(22) that simply won't use a condom now. They think that simply because the chick says she is on BC its A-ok.

Makes me cringe and double up whenever I'm about to go where all men have gone before.

That is a valid theory.

I was having sex but I was constanty worried about getting someone pregnant and most of my friends were the same way. I've talked to some kids today who seem to think they will just be "lucky" and it won't happen to them.

"capable of being sexual active" meaning able to actually convince a girl to have sex with them. IE. not a horrible nerd.
