Detroit Claims Fattest-City Crown

Houston has dropped to No. 2 on the Men's Fitness magazine list of fattest cities in America. Detroit moved to the top spot.

Houston civic leaders credit initiatives started under Mayor Lee Brown's "Get Lean Houston" program.

Several other Texas cities are challenging for the title. Dallas ballooned from last year's ninth-fattest city to third. San Antonio went from No. 13 to No. 4, and Fort Worth jumped from 16th to sixth.

Men's Fitness has published the list for six years. It looks at 50 cities in 14 categories, such as air quality, climate and commute time. It also determines the ratio of fast-food and pizza restaurants to health clubs and sporting goods stores.

The report will appear in the magazine's February issue, which hits newsstands this month.

I admit, I'm surprised to see Miami.  I suppose that they must mean Dade county as a whole, becaues the miami beach area is all image.  But, if you include all the ghetto folks (white rednecks, black welfarecases, and the hispanics) you'd get to some serious tonnage.

I agree with this to some extent...but it is not [i]always[/i] true.
