They are still building their aircraft carrier capabilities but have a lot of surface combatants, including:

25 destroyers
49 frigates
23 corvettes

About half of which are very modern designs built in the last 5 years.

As long as maintenance is being conducted properly and everything is in running order, those destroyers are pretty capable ships armament wise.

Correct. China's navy is nothing to turn your nose at. This combined with China's growing "string of pearls" around the world makes them a formidable fighting force, one that will only become more capable as time goes on.
