I heard the guy on Coast to Coast AM. He was talking about the end of the world. He believed Jesus would I guess descend from heaven and the world will experience Armageddon.

I've gotta work that day, so I'm okay with it. Wouldn't want the end of the world disrupting any of my off time...

Kooky groups is claiming the bible says that that's the day the end of the world starts. They're also saying that the last time they claimed it was the end of the world a few years back was some kind of math screw up on their part and they're totally sure that this time they got it right.

ETA: I'm wonder if on May 22 if they'll go for the "oops, we messed up our math again" route or the whole "our prayers have convinced god to spare you all for another year for a chance to repent" route.

I also believe that they're claiming the whole "only 144,000 people are going to be raptured and saved" thing which I don't understand proselytizing about because if I believed that I'd keep that shit to myself. It's gonna fill up at some point and you'd think you wouldn't want to risk geting bumped.
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 7:41:51 PM EST
Well it can't be the Rapture. I'm pretty sure that already happened. I think it was just a few dogs and some guy in South Dakota.

Fuck...I thought it was May 21st 2012?!?!?! You mean to tell me I'm losing a freakin year. I don't have proper ammo reserves yet.
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 8:30:19 PM EST
Good grief, Harold Camping is at it again

Camping predicted that the world would end back in 1994

IMO he's an old kook
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 8:35:12 PM EST
When nothing happens that day, they will just say that the world wasnt ready or worthy or something to that effect. Be ready for a mass suicide as well.
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 8:39:52 PM EST
I hope their right...

But I kinda doubt it.

You would not believe the complexity of the lunatic mental gymnastics applied to that question by people who are pursuaded that the total number of the saved is 144K, and yet proselytize. Any version of the explanation that I have heard or tried to read sounds like Oliver Stone's Exceedingly Disorderly Comprehensive Analysis of Every Conspiracy Ever.

Of course, there is a very simple answer to the question "Why proselytize if there is a fixed number to be saved?" That is because (if you are a believer) Jesus, already in possession of the information contained in Revelation, instructed us to do so.

I am aware of several episodes of acute embarrassment and "Oh shit, I gave my house to my POS son-in-Law" syndrome in the aftermath of erroneous Rapture/EOTW predictions, but I don't recall any mass suicides of Christian end-timers.

That would seem a bit lame on the Lord's part.

Jesus: "Hey, you guys need to go spread the word."
Rapture people: "Why? Only 144k people are saved and you already know who we are. Isn't that a bit like wanking?"
Jesus: "Well, it'll give you something to do at least besides sit on the couch and eat funions while waiting for the end. A bit of air will do you good."

This might not be a good year to expect Deej's "Happy Birthday" posts.....

EDIT:

Camping, 88, has scrutinized the Bible for almost 70 years and says he has developed a mathematical system to interpret prophecies hidden within the Good Book. One night a few years ago, Camping, a civil engineer by trade, crunched the numbers and was stunned at what he'd found: The world will end May 21, 2011.
