I have my first 4x4 vehicle. A 2004 ford F150.

I blew a tire last night and I am just going to have all 4 replaced with new tires since they are all worn. I know on a 4x4 vehicle all the treads and wheels should be the same to keep from  messing up the 4 wheel drive.

Would 3 old tires and one new tire that were the same brand and make be enough to mess up the 4 wheel drive?

I was just curious and wondering...

No, it won't damage your transfer case, although it could damage your rear differential if you put one new and one old tire on the rear axle of a Trac-loc equipped vehicle.  Look on the metal tag attached to one of the rear differential cover bolts. It will have your rear axle gear ratio listed on it- like "308" (3.08:1), "327" (3.27:1), "355" (3.55:1) and so on. If there is an "L" between the first and second numbers, you have a Trac-Loc rear axle- like "3L55" (3.55:1 Trac-Loc).  Trac-Loc is usually specified in factory trailer tow option packages and "off-road" type option packages, although it can be ordered all by itself.

It would depend on the Over all size of the tires. If you use the same brand and one is heavily wore and the others are new, than it could be an inch or so far. this can effect things esp. lockers. IF you had one old tire blow out, its jus time b4 the others do. Get them all changed at once, spend the money and have piece of mind. Than you have no worries.
