'Cause your shoulder will get knocked back into last week?
But levers are cool. I have a number of them including an original Winny 1886 in .45-70- |
Aaaah because Sarah Brady won't like it.......... |
I am the voice of reason.
Dont buy it. Wait and get one with porting. |
Stainless and wood don't look good together.
I think it is ugly. TRG |
I have been kicking around get one of these in 45/70

I have a non stainless model myself so I would be biased if I gave any opinions!
It has a Scout Scope mount with an EER Leupold scope and AO Express sights on it. BigDozer66 |
Unfortunantly its Dicks. I hate giving them money. But its the only store that has one in stock. And is such a pretty gun I need to take it from that vile store. |
I have a marlin 39A from 1957 that my grandfather purchased. My father and I are planning on purchasing a 45/70 Lever Action.
I plan to use it to go hunting and he wants it for Buffallo Shoots w/ Cowboy Action Shooting. So If that can be construed as a reason to buy it use it as such |
44 mag or 357mag is a whole lot cheaper to feed plus chicks dig anything with the word Magnum in it.
I already have a 44 mag. Why shoot 240 grain bullets when you can shoot 400 grain ones. |
+1 I think it ugly too sorry |
If it does not go down with 5 rounds of 45-70, then lay your gun down and ask the good Lord to take ya. |
Hold out for a .444 or .450 with ports
And skip the stainless for chissakes, it's a lever gun |
I had one, recoil nearly put my shoulder out while shooting prone
It was a nice gun though, but I had to sell it. Sometimes I regret it though Mark |
I want that exact rifle so bad I can taste it. The only thing holding me back (besides money--danged cabin eats it all) is the fact a lever gun is a PITA to clean. As TBS mentioned, if you don't reload you will likely spend more time fondling it than shooting it due to ammo costs.
ETA: I believe they only come ported (for those who mentioned that). |
I find myself fondling my guns more than shooting anyway. Only shoot once or twice a month. Everyone should have at least one good $1 a shot firearm. |
Get a .50 BMG--it can be your "big thumper." Cheap ammo is $1.85 or so a round and you can spend $3.00 for each bullet--and still have to load the cartridge. |
Get it.
I have the .450 and will probably get rid of it for a 45-70 which is more versatile for reloading than the .450. |
haha Give that gun a good home! |

Reason enough is the Garrett 540gr hardcast Hammerhead load.
540-GR SUPER-HARD-CAST GAS-CHECKED HAMMERHEAD AT 1550-FPS drool.... |
You can't buy that rifle.
Here is more than enough reason to get the rifle:
420gr Cast @ 1850 FPS; Energy = 3200 ft/lbs Garrett Cartridge Company SBG |
There is this newfangled technology that automatically loads the next round after you pull the trigger...
You guys are jerks. Here I am looking for support and you are going to make me spend money. I am now sitting here at work, itching to buy it, but I don't get off until 5:30.
darnit! |
Becuase rapid fire is needed when delivering 3200 ft/lbs of energy? I own tons of autos. Its time for a good tank gun. |
it's a model 1895 Marlin the Indian wars ended in 1890 |
I don't like SS rifles, but you do so I say get it. I have no need for something in that size caliber, but I sure would love to have that same rifle but with a blued finish. Go buy it now!!!
forgiveness for it being Dick's depends on which one, if it's the Fair Lakes dicks, that is an evil evil place and should be burned to the ground
If you don't want to buy from Dick's, and you would prefer a blued finish you can always buy it from WalMart for $416 and use the savings towards 20rds from Garrett.

This has no need. Its pure want. Nothing I hunt can't be taken with my shotguun or 303 or 30-06. Pure want, which is why there is a debate. |
