Here's why: {an} = {3,4,6,10,18,34 .... } = {a0,a1,a2,a3,a4,a5....an} To me it looks like the amount of each terms growth is equal to twice that of the previous terms. Its exponential. If we take any of the terms and subtract the amount we had to add to get it we always get 2. So it looks like we are dealing with 2 + something = an. Well it looks like 2^n works if we start with n=0. 2 + 2^0 = 2 +1 = 3 2 + 2^1 = 2+ 2 = 4 2 + 2^2 = 2 + 4 = 6 2 + 2^3 = 2 + 8 = 10 2 + 2^4 = 2 + 16 = 18 2 + 2^5 = 2 + 32 = 34 It holds that 2 + 2^n = {an}. so to find the next term a n+1(n=6): 2 + 2^(5 + 1) = 2 + 2^6 = 2 + 64 = 66. Edited: This is NOT a proof. I was just trying to let people follow what I was doing. Also after looking it up 2 + 2^(n-1) works a lot better that way you dont have set your first term at 0 and you can just plug in any n. The way I did it was retarded. |
