I have hundreds of these things that I used to use in my business.

I can't imagine anyone actually using them for anything with all the new storage tech.

Is there a market for selling them, or are they trash?
Link Posted: 4/18/2017 9:32:42 AM EDT
Give them to a museum.
Link Posted: 4/18/2017 9:32:44 AM EDT
Also, Sony Mavica 85s that used the above mentioned 3.5" floppies.

Seriously though, there has got to be someone out there that "needs" them on ebay!!

In Office, the save icon is a 3.5 floppy. Ask today's generation what that symbol is and they'll say "save" -- which is correct. But ask them what it actually is and they'll look at you blankly.

We still use them for some ancient CNC machines.

Toss them, many will probably will have read/write issues.

The good ol' floppy disk.  Here I am 25 years later still trying to wrap my head around the fact that MicroSD cards go as high as 256GB these days.

Use them for targets.  I've used CD/DVDs too.  A mess to clean up though.

I remember seeing these in the Marine Corps...I think it was one reason I thought the idea of home computers was ridiculous!
Link Posted: 4/18/2017 9:47:44 AM EDT
you can still buy them new, trash them.
Link Posted: 4/18/2017 9:47:49 AM EDT
Key ring for those keys you don't want someone to accidentally forget they have in their pocket... You know, the ones you need and have to drive 30 miles to fetch because they're going out of town tomorrow for a week...

I thought it was about old boobs.

That's how irrelevant the discs are.

I remember having to tell people that a 3 1/2" was still a floppy disk and not a hard disk.

This.

I found my old college stash of these not long ago.

They make great targets.

5 1\4" AND our phone system at work was backed up on 8" floppies.
Still have a few somewhere.

I still use them with my Toshiba Libretto 50CT (similar to the one below.....)

Went to a new digital camera using SD cards years ago partly because I was having issues. All these disks, the cameras, and the drives have all been in storage since.

I just don't know if it is worth the hassle and effort to try to sell it. I am not exactly savvy on ebay selling and don't want to open myself up to some liability.

Came in for this .... backed out slowly

Link Posted: 4/18/2017 10:12:03 AM EDT
I used one for a visible light filter for making an eye tracking camera.

Other than that they are not worth anything

First "floppy" was 8" (1967)

5-1/4" floppy came along in 1976

3-1/2" introduced 1982 and is not really a floppy, it is a diskette.

Actually, I could use some.

My Yahama Clavinova piano uses them as storage device.  If you want to sell me like 20, I'll buy them.  Send me a PM.

I remember always getting those AOL free 10 hours disks. Erased them and reused them.

Threw them all out when I moved. I had a drive in my old computer but it died so it pulled it and trashed it too.
Link Posted: 4/18/2017 11:29:02 AM EDT
I remember a time standing in the government supply center with my supervisor - you could get individual single sided 5 1/4" floppy disks or you could buy a box.
So I ask "which should we get?"
His response was why would anyone ever need to store that much data?
Ah, computing in the '80s.

So much unreadable data...

One of our wire EDM's finally got a USB interface installed for loading programs, about the last year or 2. They were using the same 3.5" floppies over and over and over.
