That is about 20 miles of hiking to get that meat out, ouch in the snow like that.  Nah, I am good.

I also hope that dude had other clothes packed in case he got stranded, because he was woefully under dressed if he got stuck overnight.

His shooting skills looked really sloppy to me.  Head popped right up, No follow through on the trigger.  If the elk needed another round he was in no position to do it well.

Plus, not buying 600 yards if his on rifle skills are as poor as we saw.

Meh...

Have shot critters at 600+ and have shot critters at arms length.

It's MUCH more fun to whack 'em when you can smell them. The adrenaline dump is awesome!!

Harvesting chow is harvesting chow though.

He probably has a knife.
And while in possession of that knife, he killed an elk from 600 yards.
and see how well he does.

Pretty good apparently.

It's massive with a 250 grain .338 win mag.  Like.....forget that whole shoulder and the off side ribs massive....

.338LM ......probably not all that much to pack out even at "600" yards.

Humping that pig around for 9 days in those conditions----is just this side of retarded.  But freedom.....YMMV.

They probably filmed only the zoomed in view of the elk actually getting hit, then to make it look cool they filmed another random shot and made it look like they were the same.

Maybe.

I doubted it less based on the camera focus and size of the animal than his shooting skills.

it's got to be a hell of a lens to go 600 yards with some clarity and not be the only thing you hump through the mountains.

I would have liked to seen more style and skills. I felt he was weak in those areas. I mean he could have killed the fuck out of it by running it over or clubbing it like a baby seal. Still doesnt mean he did it cool.

Why?  Because the shooter's skills and the camera footage do not support a 600 yard shot as claimed.

At 600 yards, even at 15x, elk make for very small targets.

The thought of that hike in, let alone the pack out of all that meat......exhausts me.

I couldn't care any less what someone uses to kill their animal of choice.  If done ethically and reasonably, good shoot.

Longest shot I ever made on an elk was a bit over 400 yds with a 7mm mag. The areas where I elk hunted generally didn't allow much more distant shots as it was pretty steep and heavily timbered. Not many open parks.

I do shoot long range precision these days and would feel comfortable that I could get in the kill zone on an elk out to about 800 yds...if I could get a natural point of aim on the shot and an unbostructed view.

Regarding the video, I don't pull off of the scope and do immediately cycle the bolt - in case a follow-up shot is necessary. The guy in the video did neither.

Using too much gun for deer and elk seems pretty common place these days. Personally, I hate to bloodshot even one ounce more meat than is necessary. But that's just me.

I took my Aoudad at 325 yards with my 338 Lapua.  Two rounds of 225 gr Accubonds.....and neither one even passed through!  Tissue damage was there but nowhere near the pics of that mule deer.  Hell, it took him about 5-10 minutes to die!

I also question that shot was 600 yards.  Calling BS here.
