"My case isn't that special. It's just a combination of parenting and motivation and inspiration," he says after a recent shift at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California. "I tend to not compare myself that often to other people. I just try to do the best I can."

His parents say he was always a quick study. At 4 months, he pointed to a jet in the sky and said the Chinese word for airplane, his first word. Cavalin hit the limits of his home schooling after studying trigonometry at age 7. Then his mom started driving him to community college.

He'll either grow up to be an incredible badass and excel at everything he does and become a God among men--smoking a cigarette while he bends a supermodel over the hood of his Corvette in the background of the smoldering wreckage of a test aircraft he walked away from before accepting Nobel prizes for Peace and Pimpage...

Or burn out, move in with his parents, and get supervised visits to the waterpark twice a year.

(I am getting some great mileage out of this one sentence)

ETA: Two, two sentences, not one.

I always wonder about these people. No doubt great achievements for their age, but I've worked with several people who have had multiple patents, etc. and none of them were the child prodigies that you hear about.

Do these super kids ever go on to do anything amazing on their own or is it just checking boxes along the way ahead of schedule per societal norms?

This story is an example of human potential, which is more empowered nowadays than at any time in recorded history that I am aware of.

It just shows how anything run by the government is going to be the least common denominator, whereas the private sector can accomplish so much more in a short time span.

If your kids had similar opportunities, where would they be?

Think of the kind of future we could have by empowering the next generation with knowledge and understanding made possible by the information era.

His mom is Asian (Thai) and his dad is Jewish (Israeli). He is a superhuman! He also does not seem to be socially deficient.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB67sOpQtlw

I also notice that he is always wearing a hat of some kind. It leads me to believe his family are practicing Jews. (a hat is just as good as a yarmulke and actually normal in some circles as it avoids an outward signal of being Jewish. )

I disagree. He successfully bested human constructs. He didn't invent the next X, Y, or Z...he passed degrees that had human limitations set on them, not nature or the stars.

Actually, most of them go into the sciences and that is what they do, science. There are very few scientist anyone ever "hears" from. While everyone can rattle off a long list of movie stars and sports stars, very few people can name the chairman of the department of Physics at Harvard or a single Fields Medal winner, if they even know what that is. Unless they are your fiends and neighbors no one knows the names of people who are creating breakthroughs in STEM fields. A lot of people in science and engineering do very important things and make fine livings, but they are not famous.

The question I would pose is, how else would it work? A child science prodigy isnt likely to turn into a movie star or win the super bowl. When he grows up and becomes a vice president of engineering for a company or is a professor of math somewhere, there is no longer a story. "Kid graduates with math degree at 12" is a story. "47 year old is promoted to chairman of department of math at State U" is not much of a story.

These days you can be trailer park, or euro douche...European sports cars aren't any better than stock corvettes at least from a performance perspective and certainly not for the money.

Corvette has been kicking a lot of Porsche and Ferrari ass in the various race series around the world for the last decade or so.

If your hung up on the vette sterotype I guses you miss out on one of the greatest sports cars currently built

Or do they just CLEP out of all those classes?
