Compton is one of the worst areas in SoCal. Their police dispartment was DISBANDED a few years ago due to corruption and budget problems. The city is now policed by the L.A. Sheriff's Dept. on contract.

Hope everyone is OK.

2 Deputies Wounded, Suspect Shot in Florence Area
From a Times Staff Writer

11:54 AM PST, March 20, 2006

Two deputies were wounded and a suspect was shot in an exchange of gunfire this morning near 70th Street and Compton Avenue in the Florence area, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The deputies' injuries were not life threatening, said Deputy Jeff Cannon.

The incident began at 10:15 a.m. when deputies stopped a car that was wanted in connection with a serious domestic violence complaint. The driver fled on foot.

When one deputy tackled the suspect, he produced a handgun and started shooting. The second deputy then shot the suspect. He suffered wounds to the legs, hands and a grave wound to the face.

"Thank god it's a two-man car. If it hadn't been a two- man car, god knows what could have happened," said Undersheriff Larry L. Waldie in an interview on ABC's Channel 7.
