Looks like Chris Johnson and Devin Hester will race a cheetah in November on tv. That will be interesting to watch, as the cheetah runs past them like they are standing still.

Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:09:35 AM EST
And they'll lose.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:10:14 AM EST
I hope the cheetah eats CJ.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:10:16 AM EST
How will they motivate the cheetah to run?
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:11:05 AM EST
Please.

I was thinking they'd just starve the cat for a bit, then let it chase the players down a fenced, straight corridor. That would be the interesting way to do it and there would be clear winners and losers.

They will get their asses handed to them.

Cheetah's can accelerate 0-60 faster than most supercars.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:12:07 AM EST
I vote they starve the cheetah for a few days before hand. I'm willing to bet that would add a few extra MPH onto those NFL players' top speed.

Would free up a lot of salary cap room too!
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:13:26 AM EST
Top speed of over 60mph, yeah they don't stand a chance.

Should have checked to see if the FBI was able to get any information about cheetahs and used it to research it before they decided to go forward with that idea...

Does the cheetah know its in a race?

People are idiots...
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:17:52 AM EST
It'll probably be some bullshit Top Gear thing, where the cheetah not only has to run the quarter mile, but also do it inside a giant hamster wheel while skydiving.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:18:14 AM EST
You're all forgetting a Cheetah can only run at that speed for about 90seconds... So they could outdistance the cheetah when the Cheetah must stop and rest after that exertion. Besides the damn cheetah is more inbred than Kentucky Hill Folk.

Think Tortoise (Humans) vs Hare (Cheetah). The Cheetah will start out way ahead but soon run out of gas. The humans can keep going for longer.

Pronghorn Antelope vs Humans would be a better challenge.

It's a sprinting challenge, not a marathon...
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:20:53 AM EST
I can see the over excited host now explaining after the race what just happens.

"You see, we knew that a cheetah would blow any human, or any bipedal animal for that matter, right out of the water in a foot race, but we just had to test it. To be fair though, if the cheetah was only using two of its four legs the competitors may have stood a chance. Here is a CGI rendering of what that may have looked like"

Than the instant replay 40 fucking times before the commercial.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 6:21:19 AM EST
Of course the cheetah will win, & i'm sure they know that. Either way, i think that's a pretty cool thing to do. I'll watch it.

I would still be willing to be that over the course of a mile, or even a few miles the cheetah would still smoke most humans without having to try very hard. Over 50 miles, we would probably win. Our ability to sweat and just keep moving is what helped our ancestors run down game.

I'd rather watch them try to run FROM a cheetah. Would be great tv.

They dont play in the NFL because they are smart.

Tie some bacon to a set of flag football flags? See if their native land genetics remembers large cats.

At least the cheetah won't look at you like you're an asshole and then spray on your shoes when it gets there first.

The Cheetah will lose the race, but gain a free meal.

Call me when they sign a cheetah as a receiver.

(And yes, they'll lose. Things are designed to accelerate and are quadrupedal.)

Pound for pound a cheetah's acceleration power is about four times that of Usain Bolt.

Hunting speed is about 58mph (burst speeds up to 70mph) and can sustain over the average prey chase 3.5 miles.

From a standing start the Cheetah can reach 45 mph (20 m/s) in 2 seconds.

Cheetah running captured in slo-mo HD: Cheetah at full throttle
Notice how the head is almost motionless while the entire body works in flawless unison.

If the big cat can be inspired to run it will look like a Ferrari F50 up against two mopeds.

They will get owned like a bitch. Cheetahs are ALL acceleration and nearly no endurance.

They would've done better to race a horse. Humans can be competetive against many horse breeds in a 40. Cats accelerate too fast.

When at speed don't they have something along the lines of a twenty foot stride?
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 7:46:22 AM EST
Maybe it will be like the Russian video of the bear and monkey tricycle racing. The monkey wasn't as serious as the bear, and ended up, um, as bear poop.

Same as a horse, about 22 feet.

As soon as I saw the thread title, my brain said "Devin Hester." I open the thread, and sure enough...

Go Bears!
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 7:53:08 AM EST
Well if they make the Cheetah run on two legs in cleats my money is on Hester.
