The 2012 growing season has ended for most of the nation’s farmers, but thedroughtthat dogged many of them appears here to stay. According to the Dec. 11, U.S. Drought Monitor, nearly 62% of the continental United States remains in some stage of drought. Forty-three percent of that area is considered to be in severe, extreme or exceptional drought.

I also heard on the radio today that it would take 18" of additional snow for my area to get back to normal soil moisture, come spring. Right now all the snow has melted off, and barring some huge blizzard, other doesn't look like that's going to happen.

How are the conditions were you're at?

Extreme drought.  We're in a 25" rainfall area and last year we had 10".   We've had a foot of snow this winter in various storms.  It will have to be terribly wet to get us back to normal.
