Id like to see and try it for myself. I suck at parking, i just pull through
I pride myself on being an excellent parallel parker. Who needs this technology?
This video could be titled, "How to make three guys who somehow landed the coolest job in the world sound like complete and total fags."
REAL MEN already know how to parallel park!!
What kind of fuckwadpussy needs that crap?? |
The kind who lets his wife drive his car on occasion?... (ATTN. WOMENFOLK: This was just a joke... ) |
As a person with poor depth perception due to a lazy eye, I would be very interested in that feature.
Or maybe just video cameras fore and aft. ETA the video is funny. We need a Lexus O' Truth thread. |
dUMEST i EVER heard. Lexus is gonna get sued. If something goes wrong with this and theres auto damages, whos pays for the other car?
Good point. Maybe a Lexus will run over a kid or something. |
This reminds me of a Popular Mechanics article where they were reviewing one of the Infiniti's. It may have been the G35...I don't recall for certain. But they were discussing the Big Brotherly attibutes of the car.
The GPS navigation system can not be used while the car is in motion by either the driver or the passenger (it can show you directions and stuff, but you can't make any changes because the buttons are locked out). And the cruise control will not engage if your windshield wipers are turned on any higher than "very-low intermittent". |
LOL
I am good at parallel parking. I'd never use the feature, though the camera in back might be handy just for reassurance. |
Who needs the self-parking feature on the new Lexus LS460 when you have mad parking skills like these guys.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=C18XgYS5TdQ www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-SaQQVtS60 www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl8_qoduJ-8 Besides, is more fun to do it like that than let a computer do it for you. |
The year, 2008.
"A recall was put out on any 2007 Lexus with a self park feature. The cars computers have been learning and starting to take over the cars functions at times, one owner said his car seemed "Emotional". If you own a 2007 Lexus please turn it in to the nearest dealership for repair, free of charge." |
+1 And gay. But I already said that. |
Did they hit that minivan? It sure came way too close to the other car.
I can't imagine it being used for that kind of parking, isn't it more likely to be used for parallel parking? |
Emotional? Now don't argue with me!!! |
i parallel my big ass lifted truck just fine. unless someone has a medical disability, there is no need for this feature
plus is someones auto lexus hits me they are getting one hell of an ass kickin |
Im waiting for one to run into me now so I can take some time off work.
Coming from the insurance industry, how are we supposed to find someone at fault who was technically not driving the vehicle at the time of loss??
Video won't play in Firefox... FYI.
So, isn't the system supposed to parallel park?? Not back into a parking space? Maybe it does both. Looks to me like the last thing they did where it was going for the minivan it was trying to parallel park. |
Video is playing like crap here at work. I'll watch it at home.
That's a common problem for FF users. Step-By-Step Guide: Embedded Windows Media in Firefox |
I would bet they are still liable as being the technical operator of the vehicle. Lexus must have had a horde of pin striped suits look that one over before they sold these. Damn interesting question though. |
I learned to drive in NYC, so I probably can parallel park faster than that thing.
LOW2000 has a good point. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the commercial was the issue of liability. If the driver was not in control, then Toyota has to be responsible. With "joint and several", it's the deepest pockets that get hit. WHo has the deepest pockets? |
So does my wife, but she has left so many notes on cars saying "Sorry, here is my number so I can fix your car" that she is running out of paper. |
On a similar note, Mercedes IIRC has active cruise control now that will keep the vehicle in the lane and will bring the car to a complete stop in traffic, and then accelerate again once traffic begins to move. Same concept, "I was behind the wheel, but I wasn't driving"
Assuming that these features were to work as designed it's still assinine. Just what we need..... Another device to substitute for human thought. Let's lose as many skills as we possibly can!!!
I thought the video was funny. And I wonder how many people actually watched it since everyone's talking about parallel parking. It might be what the system was designed for, but that's not what's going on in the video.
Lexus's are female? |
I love my Avalance, but I can't see behind me for shit in that thing. It would be a nice feature. My fiance has perfected the 27-point turn, so it wouldn't do her any good...

BMW is developing both a remote control garage parking system as well as an auto parallel parking system.
"BMW drivers will soon be able to garage their cars by remote control and boost child safety at the same time. The prototype BMW Remote Park Assist allows drivers to stand beside their car while it parks itself in their garage. The car can be reversed from the parking place with the driver monitoring pedestrian traffic, removing the risk of reversing into children or pets." BMW Automatic Parking |
it looks like the first screen has you choose between regular parking and parallel parking from what the video showed. |
Lexus is a popular Ghetto name |

The same ones that don't know how to use a manual transmission either. |
Meh. James Bond had that option with his BMW at least two movies ago. |
Ha ha. Ya I think it is just a gimick to get buyers in the door. My dad has an ES300 and though the Nav system does work and work well. Some times it takes so long to program it, it is not worth it.
The system has two modes. One for parallel and one for perpendicular parking.
This is the way it's supposed to work: www.ajc.com/news/mplayer/m/5525 |

Yes,. allow more incompetents to run around. This adds a third to my "Two worst things to happen to Driving." First is the automatic transmission - If you can't learn to shift, you should not put my life in your incompetent hands; then is leasing, which allows ne'er do wells to get a car with which to demonstrate their incompetence. Now this. |
