It was in current  MT or CD, I forget now.  They got a 0-60 time of 5.1Sec with a 1/4 of 13.6!!! With an AUTOMATIC tranny!!!! They said it was quicker and handled better than the new GTO! The are guessing the manual tranny to do it in 4.8-4.9 sec with an exp driver.  The Cobra will show again in 05 with 400+ HP.

Finally, a "cheap" factory HP car.

I dont like the idea of getting something new anymore becuase I know it will be screwed up very shortly.  Thats the main reason Im leaving my cars looking like they are now.  I have been thinking of painting something across the hood

I just got home from building 2005 Mustangs and they are an awesome ride!!!  We are doing everything possible to build a car that people will not be disappointed in.  The word is they should go on sale next week, anything on the street is some type of pre-production unit.  I'm waiting to see the Cobra myself!!

Speed channel did an actual comparison of old muscle cars and the BOSS 429 came out on top of most of them.  I was suprised though how slow the old muscle cars were compared to modern ones.  Heavy weight and shitty tires really cost these a lot of time.  Even the Boss and the Hemi challenger were running very high 13s.

I don't know, I kinda like the looks but the last style mustang looks better to me done up right.  Like a Mach1 or even just the plain GT from 04 look freakin badass.

At least they've gotten an infusion of power for the GTs now, just saw a dyno of 254rwhp 270something lb-ft at the rears.  That's not too shabby (although under Mach1 numbers).  Although the Camaro was making that (or significantly more from 98-02) from 93 on....  I'm holding out for a new Camaro to be made or maybe the new Charger, depends on what they look like...

Every CAR I ever owned was a stang. ( 2 trucks and a minivan also). I think I like the new car. I cant wait to see one in real life. When do they hit the dealers? BTW not to open a can of worms, but I hope the new car is faster than the current one. My department issued 00 Crapmaro would  stomp a mudhole in any of the stock Mustanges I ve owned. But then again, who ownes a stock mustang

From the November Motor Trend:
2005 Mustang GT with automatic transmission

0-60 in 5.1 sec
1/4 mi in 13.8 sec @ 99 mph

They expect the manual to do 0-60 in 4.8 to 4.9 seconds

Not bad for $25K

Would have been interesting to see that show. All the reviews from the era I can remember had the Boss 429 never running out of the 14's.  I was not impressed with the performance of two I actually saw run.  I think the best all around performing first generation Mustang was the Boss 351 with the 68 1/2 Cobra Jet being the fastest in the 1/4 mile.

Really nice looking car!!! Mucho improvement over the last "Mustang" that Ford had out. That body style from 2000ish to 2004 just didn't look right at all.

The 05' is going to be a huge hit!!!!! I can say that and I don't like Fords at all but I really like the body style of this new Mustang. (dipping in the 13's off the showroom floor is always impressive too)

The old stangs had more power than they could hook up. Shitty bias ply tires, being front heavy, and an old school suspention made for poor hook-up. The Boss 429 was for track racing not dragging.  The 351 SCJ in the early 70s stang was the fastest version.

I remember Connie Kalitta's 69 Boss 429 funny car "Bounty Hunter".  Just because Ford developed a motor for their interests in Nascar does not mean the motor has to be a pig in drag racing.  The Hemi and 427 Fords are proof of that.  The stock Boss 429 Mustang was a pig.  I could get a stock 67 Ford Fairlane with a 427 and beat the Boss on the strip and the track.

I never heard of a 351 super cobra jet.  Boss 351 was the fastest stock Cleveland motor.  1972 351 H.O. was basically an open chambered detuned Boss 351.

I just can't help but think of a Mustang as a 16 yr old high school girl's car.

Maybe when they stop stuffing it with mainly V6s and churning them out until they're on every street corner will I then consider it as  "badass".

They are going to show it again on the 21st and 24th. Autoerotica: Muscle Car Shootout

BTW, a friend of mine in highschool 20yrs ago had a Cobra Jet.  He would punch it on the freeway at 65 and the rear end would break loose.  Damn that thing was fast.

You are correct, I meant H.O not SCJ, to many engine packages to keep track of......I was refering to stock show room cars, if you were going to drag one, you want a SCJ over the Boss, they were better suited for the street racing thant the Boss was. The 69 to 73 stangs were the most beutiful made, I have probably 20 bokks on my shelf for nothing than classic pre73 stangs.

As for the New GT and the new Charger next year from Dodge....Well, I think GM is gonna have another sales loser, ala Camaro/Trans-Am. These two new cars are going to KILL it.

That was on a Mustang dyno (no relation to the car) which takes into account acceleration. Add about 10-15% to those numbers for the dynojet numbers you're comparing it with. Furthermore, the car was not broken in. In other words, between 275-290rwhp and 290-300lb/ft at the rear wheels.

The 05 Mustang GT in a 60 roll with a 04 Mach 1 beat the Mach by about 1 1/2 cars. Since the Mach is pretty even with the GTO and a tick behind the earlier LS1s...

not to mention that the new chassis is set up much much better for both drag racing and road courses. Better hook up off the line and it slaloms at 66mph. The 2003 Cobra only slalomed 64mph.

I'd never trust Ford prototype horsepower ratings.

Somehow, they always seem to lose power when they go into manufacturing.

Remember the Recall of the Cobra models because they were WEAK?   Well below advertised horsepower.

No offense to anyone witha current body mustang, but I think the current body is butt ugly. The new one is a HUGE improvement IMO. Retro my not always be a good thing, but in this case the retro stangs look WAY better than the new ones.

I'm not a Ford guy either, but it seems Ford has been doing things right lately.

Edit: One thing I really like about it is how the front wheels are pushed forward towards the front bumper. One thing I could NEVER stand about a lot of the american sports cars is all the crap they had hanging off in front of the front wheels. Just look at any F-body and you'll see what I mean. Then look at how the BMW is and the wheels are much closer to the front end. It seems like Ford took this styling cue straight from BMW and I like it a lot.
