Came across a 1993 Mercedes 300TE Wagon for sale. The details are as follows:

* 171,000 miles
* New transmission put in car about a year ago
* New head gasket put in a few years ago
* Has NOT had the timing belt changed

The car itself is in good-excellent condition. Everything works and needs some minor repair work (new headlight lens to replace a cracked one, needs a rubber muffler hanger and a new antenna).

Guy is asking $4,500 for it, but my friend, whose lawn it's sitting on, says that the guy has been sitting on it for a long time and will take any reasonable offer. Any thoughts on what I should offer or just stay away because of the timing chain?

If its a double row chain,it should be good to go,if in doubt replace the chain/guide too.
How does the A/C work? M-B's are kinda funny in that regard.

Coming from the MB mechanic, I would say this is sage advice.
