The Polara is one you don't hear talked of much.  My grandpa (a Korea Vet whom has passed from us), had a Polara of that same body style, but it was a blue two-door.  No 440 in his, though!

Sweet car, thanks for the pictures!

Looks nice .I didn't think the Polara came with the RT package . He must of had it painted because looking at the pics it looks like the exhaust tips have paint on them .
Nice to see that there are still some of those old cruisers still around .
I miss my 1969 Dodge Super Bee 440- 6 Pak

Tell him to check the NADA. Looks like close to 16  or 17 grand.

Check around on some MOPAR forums to try and get a feel for price.

It is a c-body. looks like with disc brakes.
no such thing as an r/t package on that car.
Don't have my decode stuff here, but a mopar board like moparts.com could tell you what it came with.

The extra gauges and cb obviously are not stock.

"looks" very clean, but there would be a bunch of places to check.
C-bodies do not sell for very much.
There has been a nice looking 70 newport vert with a/c and bb for sale for quite some time listed at 22k.
While 16k might seem reasonable, my bet is it won't pull more than 12k unless someone really wants it.

Even during the big muscle car heyday, c-bodies, even fully restored rarely pulled 10k.

Whoa.

Not my favorite Mopar, but any survivor like that is off-the-charts cool.

That thing has been painted, and not only that, the fender tag should not be riveted - it should be screwed on (phillips head to be precise). At that point I would start looking at the other VIN# locations to make sure they match (radiator core support, trunk lip, etc). Got any clear pics of the VIN plate on the dash? I'd be interested to see the rivets holding it on.

As mentioned, no R/T package on Polara's so somebody added the emblem. Something's just not quite right for a survivor car, although looking at pictures isn't the same as being there and seeing it in person.

ETA: It IS in very nice shape, especially the interior. I have little doubt it's a low mileage survivor, I just doubt that the exterior always looked that good. They don't make replacement interior parts for the C-bodies that I know of so either they are original or somebody might have had a clean parts car to get them from if they've been replaced. The master cylinder has been replaced recently. Reproduction tires like that have been available for years, though it isn't completely impossible that those are original.

That CB radio on the pull out mount brings back some memories! We use to have one radio that we swapped between three cars back "in the day" when CD's were all the rage. Love the old Sun Super Tach II.  They are finally reproducing that one too. Just in time since I need a "vintage" tach for my '66 Mustang resto project.

They stopped painting the engines blue in 1968 if I remember correctly...

Hmmm... I don't think your friend has what he thinks he does!

All 273/318/360 are either red till 69 and blue thereafter

340's are orange in 70 and 71 only. 72 - 74 they are blue

383/400 were blue untlil disconitinued. They were Orange when they had holley 4 barrels on them. Only found in S price class vin code cars.

440's were blue from 67-74 except for HI-Po cars with 375hp ratings. (U codes) Those would be found in S vin code cars.

All 440 6bbl's (v-code) and 426 hemis (r-code) were orange.

Looks like it has electronic ignition, power steering, power brakes, no AC. It looks like some of the original underhood parts have been changed, like the upper radiator hose, the clamps, cant tell what else from the pics. There is a huge following for c-bodies, especially clean, numbers matching convertibles.

It was also a special order car base on its fender tag and collectors love that.

Heres you VIN decoded.

27 - Convertible
