I was browsing the 1911 forum and I saw this post. A Sprinfield 1911 cracked slide using standard ammo. Someone there refers to another incident so I guess it's not unique. Very scary situation, since there is no slide stop on 1911's. http://www.1911forum.com/ubb/Forum19/HTML/000533.html

I think he is referring to something that Beretta made famous. After the incident with the SEAL's, Beretta put a device in their gun to prevent the slide from flying back and hitting someone in the face, should it begin to crack, due to improper use of hot loads. Correct me if I am wrong FF
