I am going to buy a 17 caliber rifle, and I was wondering which one of these two would be the better choice.  I have never shot either.

A local store has a couple of identical single shot handi-rifles, one in 17 HMR and one in 17 Mach 2.  Just need help on which one to get.  They guy will give me a deal on either of them.  $90 each.  They both have bull barrels, and a weaver scope mount right on them (no iron sights).

Thanks for any input.

I would go with the 17HMR

the only advantage of the 17HM2 is that you can convert an existing .22lr rifle to that caliber with minor mods like a new barrel.

if you are getting a brand new gun I would definitely get the 17HMR

17HMR.

Advertised at 2550 fps. for the Hornady ammo, don't know barrel length.

I have Marlin 917 V, $187 at Wally World...Love it.

Thanks, I will be getting the HMR then.

At $90 for the rifle, I think it is a pretty damn good deal, at least for around here.

Why is it that I only see bolt action and revolver .17HMRs? Are they ever gonna have a semi-auto version(preferably with detachable magazine) in the near future? Because it's a fun caliber.

In fact it'd be great if they they made an "AW" type .17 HMR since I don't believe it'd be covered under the CA bullshit weapon ban.

Nope.  Just wonder if all topics will be put in the right forums now.

here's mine a Marlin 917vs w/Burris 20x fullfield 2
Marlin have Green mtn barrels and will shoot . 3/4" moa or better out of the box.
I would advise at least a 14x power scope.

Yes I know.  Someone posted a topic earlier that was SOMEWHAT related to religion.  It got moved rather quickly.

So I am wondering if other topics will also be moved to their appropiate forums or if the religious threads are just being singled out.

I put one of their mach 2 barrels on my 10/22 and it's become my favorite plinker.  The mach2 ammo is about 1/2 the price of  the HMR and still does the job for me..

Rhineland Arms is doing a .17cal version of their 22 assault rifle, and will also be doing it in 5.7.
