I have a .308 bolt gun... But I am a barrel away from my new ar10 and not sure where to go? I have a small ammo fort but it's hard (especially for the same cost) to leave the 6.5 advantageous ignored.what wisdom do you have great have?

You think 1500 rounds is an ammo fort?

.308 barrel for the AR10 to burn up the ammo, and a new 6.5Creedmoor barrel for the bolt gun

Similar situation, I'd say go 6.5 on AR10 and shoot the rest through bolt gun or sell the ammo to pay for barrels.

6.5 barrel life vs 308 barrel life.

Do you shoot past 1000 yards?

Do you really need 6.5, or do you wanna feel like a cool kid because you have it?

These are some questions you need to ask yourself.

That doesn't even qualify as an ammo speed bump. Barely even one brick in a small wall that could be part of a far flung wing of some fort.

You should feel bad.

Damn, this thread makes me want more ammo.

This site is judged by foundation damage, not rounds.

If it's 1500 rds of match grade ammo, you have something.
If it's just ball ammo, that would leave with the 308.

1500 is not a reason not to buy a creedmore, but the fact that you think it is, tells me you should stick with the .308.  Some people have tens of thousands of rounds for multiple calibers.  I know someone who stores their ammo at a climate controlled storage facility. They fear if a fire broke out what could happen. Not me, definitely not me.

I have a 308 AR10 and a 6.5 bolt gun.

Be like me.

.308 for both the AR10 and a bolt gun is an option.

Can't we do both?
I was a 6.5 hater for awhile for the same reason, thought it was a fad. But if you look at the higher MV,BC, and energy on target, the 6.5 is superior and at the same cost as .308. I'll replace my barrel sooner that's fine, Ballistic Advantage has them between 245-315$.

1500 rounds is a door stop, not a fort.

Buy another gun.
1500 rounds is nothing. I probably have that in my closet right now, and my closet is not one of the places I store ammo.

I didn't have either a .308 or a 6.5 Creedmoor when I decided to get into long range shooting.
I knew that most of my shooting was going to be between 600 and 1000 yards and after I looked at the ballistics I didn't even give the .308 a second thought and went straight to the 6.5 Creedmoor.
If I already had a .308 and was only shooting out to 800 yards it would have been a toss up for me.
I'm extremely happy with the 6.5 Creedmoor and I don't second guess my choice at all.

I carry 1500 rounds of .308 every time I walk out the door OP.
