14 farm workers arrested in kidnap, rape

Sheriff's deputies have arrested 14 men suspected of kidnapping and raping an 18-year-old woman in Florida.

The victim told deputies she was asleep in her home early Saturday when she heard a knock at the front door, according to the Naples Daily News. When she opened the door, she said several men reached in and grabbed her and dragged her from her home.

The victim told deputies the men took her to a nearby trailer where she saw several more men. She said one man began to choke her, while several of the others hit her, causing her to lose consciousness.

When she regained consciousness, the men were plugging her nose and pouring alcohol into her mouth, according to the report.

She said the men then removed her pants, and, while others held her down, one by one, each had sex with her for what she estimates was an hourlong ordeal. After all of the men had finished having sex with her, she was pushed out the front door. The woman said she ran to a nearby home, where she reported the crime to deputies at about 4 a.m.

The men arrested and charged are: Rene Perezgarcia, 22; Mario Lopez Luis, 19; Herman Sanchez Salas, 28; Ovidio Lopez Funez, 19; Napoleon Perez Lopez, 29; Edwin Albaladego Rivera, 28; Ermitanio Lopez Salas, 18; Israel Santiago, 56; Rolando Perez Claudio, 23; Alvarado Perez Luis, 21; Augusto Perez Lopez, 32; Cesar Perez Lopez, 29; Gabino Garcia Godinez, 24; and Augusto Garcia Velasquez, 30.

Twelve of the men are from Guatemala, one is from Puerto Rico and the other is from Mexico.

They each are charged with sexual battery, a first-degree felony, and kidnapping/false imprisonment, according to sheriff's reports.

Each of the men told deputies they reside at the trailer, except for Perezgarcia, who said he lives nearby. All of the men told deputies they are field laborers. There was no word on their immigration status.

The suspects were denied bond, and are being held in jail until legal proceedings can begin.

MOULTRIE, Georgia (AP) -- Two men were arrested Tuesday in connection with a string of brutal attacks in south Georgia that targeted immigrant farm workers, authorities said.

The crime spree last week left six workers dead, either shot or bludgeoned with baseball bats. Four other workers were injured and a woman raped.

Stacy Bernard Sims, 19, and Jamie Underwood, 22, are accused of shooting and beating a Latino man at a Norman Park trailer park and then raping his wife.

Each is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated sodomy, one count of rape, armed robbery, burglary and kidnapping, Whittington said.

More charges are likely, especially in neighboring Tift County, where immigrant workers were killed during home invasions at three other trailer parks, Colquitt County Sheriff Al Whittington said.

The pre-dawn attacks Friday sent a chill through south Georgia's large Latino community, which includes thousands of workers who harvest millions of dollars worth of crops, from peaches to Vidalia onions.

"I know the Hispanic community is very nervous with this going on," the sheriff said in announcing the arrests. "Hopefully, this will give them some peace."

Authorities believe Sims and Underwood may have been part of an armed-robbery gang that preyed on immigrant workers, who often carry large sums of cash because they lack documents to open bank accounts.

Whittington said the arrests resulted from an investigation by the FBI, the U.S. Marshal's Service, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and local police. (Watch police hunt for clues -- 1:20)

Earlier Tuesday, GBI Director Vernon Keenan said there had been about 20 home invasions targeting Latinos in Tift, Colquitt and Cook counties within the past three months.

Florida is already overrun with "migrants" there are even commercials run trying to persuade family members from smuggling their alien relatives in. Just like in that video they line up for work in the street, they work in shopping malls, restauarants etc. Phony ID is easy to come by, businesses welcome cheap labor, fast boats everyday are abandoned on the shoreline, it's funny but no one knows why. In WW2 they spoke of the soft underbelly of Europe, well the whole US southern border and shorline are the soft underbelly of the 21st century. The number of illegal aliens has just passed the number of legal aliens. Can I truthfully say they are all bad people? All I can say it is not right, the USA was built on the rule of Law, but I see now that rules are broken for the Laws of economics. The US population will swell to 550 million in 20 years and this country will become Hispanic as 50% of the 550 million will be foreign born from Latin America. Good thing that the everglades starts at about 157th avenue and some of those immigrants will head for other states, but the invasion is in full swing....
