I get to land a brand new Phenom 100 on St Maarten in 2 weeks on it's way back from Brazil.

A few of those remind me of landing at AVX in Catalina. It is definitely spookey the first time landing there, especially with a low marine layer. It looks like you are landing on the clouds. Here is a pic I found online

Nope. The last I heard it was 8 inches lower than the estimated sink rate for 50 years.

There was an unusual landing strip near me back in the 70's that was used for one landing and take off.It was 1000 feet long,bulldozed on a mountain top.The pilot managed to put a DC 4 full of weed and hash down on it.After the DEA auctioned it off,the strip had to be lengthened to 3500 feet to get it out.On a side note,the plane was originally a Blue Angles support plane,and is at a museum in Calif. now.
