Trash pickup is tomorrow morning. Seems like no matter what I put out there my guy takes care of me. I want to get him a gift. I'm thinking either a fifth or decent whisky, nothing fancy, or a 12 pack.

What would you rather receive?

Didn't we do this thread like a month ago??

Alcohol is a terrible gift for someone you don't know; it is also a terrible gift to give someone while they are working in a company owned vehicle. Could be a recovering alcoholic also.

Give a gift card.

A 12 pack of whiskey sounds about right.

A bottle of Tanqueray.  A 12 pack is too bulky and heavy.

I give my guys $20 Subway gift cards for Christmas.  One trash, one recycling.

I must be living in a hole.  Is tipping trash people a real thing?  I don't interact with mine at all, and never throw away anything wierd.  I actually think the city uses trustee labor to pick up recycling, so I dunnobhow tipping then would go.

What about businesses? Do you leave a fifth or gift card on your dumpster or what?

Company vehicle + BOOZE, what could potentially go wrong. My company prohibited ANY booze in company rigs. you want a take home car, cool, but you are walking to liquor  store.

Go with a giftcard to a store that sells booze  AND groceries, you got both covered then.

I'd rather have a hundred fifths than a hundred 12 packs.

As a trash guy...we will get fired if we get caught with alcohol in our trucks. Opened or not. I think even the DOT regulates that. I've always left alcohol. Just give him cash.

Guy prob don't want to get caught hauling a bottle around on his job either. I'd get him a card.

Yes, it is a big thing for us. When I worked residential, I'd make anywhere between $1500-$2000 in tips for Christmas not counting food and gift cards. Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day are also big tip days for us. I also live in a tourist area with major lakes. When I went to commercial, I don't get crap.

I am Old School. I give booze unless they have a problem with it.

The parking place for the Trash vehicles is a couple of miles away. I tell them to swing by after work because it isn't far out of the way. That way there is A. Nothing un-kosher in the company rig and B. No temptation to have a couple snorts along the way.

A couple of years ago on a whim I tossed the trash guy a 1/4 pint and he INSTANTLY got out of the truck and handed it back to me because he was afraid of getting caught. I can't say as I blame him.

In front of him I put it under a rock and told him he could pick it up after work. I heard someone show up and saw him retrieve it after he got off work.

Inside of three months, eight tires and two dead hookers got carted off quietly.

That is truly comedy gold.   Nicely played.

BTW, we don't have trash men here anymore, just a guy driving an automated truck that picks up the can and dumps it.

He's usually moving about 45 mph, so I've never had a chance to meet him.

I know, tires have become so tough to get rid of... well worth it.

I guess I'm a stingy ass, I don't tip the trash man...

pretty sure just about every garbage man would absolutely love a 12 pack or bottle.

as others said though... booze in vehicle may be a no no.

Just got home. Got him a fifth of Jim beam.

If for some reason he won't take that I just bought multiple pairs or winter work gloves, I plan to give him a pair of those.

I always hear his truck coming down the road at the same time every week when I am out back feeding the chickens in the morning. As long as he's on time tomorrow it will be eay to catch him and offer both

It comes from the days that guys actually picked up your trash bags.  If you left them tips they would pickup your stuff if you left to much or something that was too big.

I go with scratch off lottery tickets. Not everybody drinks. Other people can't wait until work is over to start drinking. If I was in charge of the trash truck that morning, I wouldn't want my crew having booze around all shift.

I was told by our garbage guy that they would get fired if alcohol was found in the truck about 10 yrs ago.  I started putting a 12 pack of coke out there for the guys.  They were running 2 man crews so there were 2 12 packs.    Like you, my guys always took what ever I put out there.

If he won't take it, give me a shout. I will swing by your place take whatever tires etc you are trying to get rid of long with the Jim Beam.

Then I'll ditch the stuff in an alley somewhere and have a good laugh at your expense.
