platinum? 50 bucks for 4 plugs
That's what the factory plugs go for in my GTO.
Of course I don't use em.
Quoted:
Well they do last 100K+ Mine require replacement every 30k. |
Where are you shopping? Try Rock Auto. A set of OEM Platinum plugs for my Ford were only $26
I used to love working on my cars. I lease them for 36 months now. |
I'm sure there's a cheaper alternative out there, but even if not, really? $50 is too much to spend on your car for plugs that will last 2+ years? Preventative maintenance means the car will run better and last longer. News flash, cars require preventative maintenance.

I just finished all of our orders for the 2011 race season and one of the surface discharge plugs we use are $54.75 a piece. I ordered 240 of them.
And the maker of my dirt bike say's to replace the piston and rings in my CRF450 every 40 hours. What the hell is your car doing to plugs that 99% of the cars on the planet are not?

christ people, use ngk's NGK OEM replacements for my car are $9.89/piece and there's 6.....that's for the Platinum OEM replacement. Iridium OEM replacements are $8.49/pc. |

Quoted: dump the gimmicky bullshit. get a plug like a tr55 or whtever the right heat range is. the platinums, iridiums, +4's, +whatevvers, arent worth it. Don't even look at what eight platinum plugs for my four cylinder aircraft engine costs.....
$50 every 100,000 miles ... 1/20th of a cent per mile, I'm running about $0.23 a mile in fuel.

i only drive low performance vehicles like a honda civic and tacoma :) copper plugs all the way
as a Ford tech, i see all kinds of el cheapo plugs that don't work properly in Fords almost on a daily basis. the most common blown out spark plugs from the 4.6l and 5.4l engines are Champion, bosch, autolite. these plugs will also make the engines misfire at highway speeds. the 5.4 3valve engine takes a special plug that runs about 17 each bucks at dealer. around 11 bucks from Orielly auto parts that carries Motorcraft. guys i understand parts being expensive, but this is one area that i would high recommend using what was designed for from the manufacturer.

I think I paid like 4 bucks a plug for my saturn
maybe I don't want a newer vehicle. |

Quoted: Each plug in my car is over 30 bucks each. It takes 4. That is how much the ones for the girlfriend's Lexus cost, only 8 of em. Supposedly good for 100k. Ones that came out looked to be factory and were in pretty good shape. Getting to them was umm, exciting. |

Spark plugs $12 x 6 = $72 for an E46
Taking everything apart to get to them 1.5 Hrs Watching my kid looking down the spark plug holes to see just what in the heck they make go up and down making all that nice noise Priceless |

Lol I love the RX7's but rotaries make me uneasy ever since my last one, My car was running very well before I went on vacation, I drove around all day the day before I left cruising around town and just driving pretty easy no beating on the car...I parked it and went on vacation for 2 weeks and when I came back I went to crank the car up and I hear CLANK and that was it the motor was done and had to be rebuilt which REALLY pissed me off as it was out of nowhere I ended up just selling the car instead of getting a new motor for it since I was thinking about selling it anyways before the motor went |

Spark plugs for a G3500 and G3600 Cat engines run about $100 apiece. Some of our customers try and skimp by with cheap as champions and it never fails that we will be back out there changing a plug here and there before the next pm. Use what the manufacturer recomends, it can save alot of headaches.

My 5.4L Triton blew the OEM original plug at 73K miles and I drive it like an old man. Thank God for Time-Sert, Took me better part of a day to DIY but way cheaper than the $800-$3000 I was quoted by the dealer. New OEM coil & new MC plugs. Even with the Time-Sert kit, which I found a deal on on Ebay, the repair was less than $300 and I can probably get $250 of that back selling the repair kit back on Ebay. |
