First time shooting 5.56 through an SBR this weekend.  10.5" bbl with just an A2 flashider.

It was like unleashing sonic booms in the videogame Street Fighter.   Just the sound of it firing ought to make a bad guy head for the hills.   Probably moreso than racking a shotgun.   Very cool experience.

The A2 is actually one of the better at managing the noise and blast. I first used an AAC non-mount and it rattled my teeth. The A2 is a lot more comfortable to shoot.

Truth.

I've got an A2 style flash hider on my 7 inch 300blk.

Its actually not that loud and pretty enjoyable to shoot.

I have a Surefire brake on mine.

The brake makes it...  assertive.

Fortunately, the suppressor that mounts onto the brake makes it much nicer.

As I tell people, yes, I spent $200 to make my rifle shorter and louder, and then I spent another $200 to make it longer and quieter.

My HK 53 clone SBR always makes the people in the next lane at the range cringe when I shoot it. Gotta love 5.56 out of a short barrel.

I tried an AAC single chamber on my 10.5", it came off after one mag, fuck that.

If the bad guy ever hears it, you're doing it wrong.

I always laugh a little watching the RO's draw straws when I run my 7.5" with a JM Comp at a 3 gun match.

Violent is a good word to describe it. You can feel it in your chest 25 yards away.

Fireball is great too.... after a couple thousand rounds I've pretty much destroyed the JM Comp.

Try a 7" with a KX3!!

I've got a 7.5" 7.62x39 upper with a muzzle brake on it. Definitely has some thump to it.

I'd imagine that ability of an A2 to function as a compensator gets better on a short barrel as well.

I double up on Earpro on anything under 14.5...  especially inside, unless it's suppressed.

When I discovered this, the first thing that came to mind was the flash-bang effect it could provide during a home invasion. I keep a good set of electronic ear-muffs with my goto gear although I don't know if I would have time to don them

Even on a 20" barrel, the 51 tooth muzzle break (2 chambers) is very concussive.  You feel it in your chest.  Almost zero recoil, but I would hate to hear that without plugs.

When you put it that way, it doesn't make us stamp owners look very smart.

As for the OP try one of those out with a 2-chamber muzzle brake in an enclosed area.

I think once you start from the premise of not wearing ears while firing a rifle, the degrees of brutality above that point become largely irrelevant.

I haven't shot my 10.5" 5.56 gun from inside a car (and don't plan on it), but I did shoot about 15-20 rounds out of a 16" .308 with an SJC Titan compensator out of a car during the Pro-Am 3gun match a few years back.  Even with plugs and muffs it was pretty fucking brutal.... bordering on disorientingly loud.

Have any of you guys tried loading 5.56mm with ball powder? The flash from ball powder is 5 times larger than typical NATO loads. It's pretty incredible out of a 10.5" gun.

How many rounds have you put through the can in this configuration? I've been trying to get up the nerve and use my .308 can on my 7" AR.

That is a sweet setup. What make is the forearm and barrel? Is it 100% reliable with most ammo? What buffer and spring did you use?

Man speaks the truth here, try the Surefire Muzzlebrake on a 10.5 and it is unpleasant to say the least. Slap a Surefire Mini on there and mine is like shooting a full auto 22lr.

NATO loads use WC844, that is the military version of H335, a ball powder.

Thanks for the correction. When I used to reload back in the 70's, I used to buy some kind of Winchester Ball powder that created a massive fireball out of a SBR. I just assumed it was the ball powder that caused it. Hmmm....wonder what it was.

Why not mix some titanium powder in with the smokeless propellant?
