Yes thumbs forward. She has had a bad experience with her ex husband with guns and has been traumatized from it. So right now I will work with her 4-5 rounds at a time. She refuses to buy a gun and rather just shoot one of mine.

I'm not going to let this thread die.

Some photos from a local shooting event. These were taken during the buddy run so that bearded guy is my husband.

I ran this 10-ish weeks after having a baby. There were three events, a solo run, a buddy run and a NV run. I ran the first two events but my NV set up isn't finished so I opted out. The hubs ran all three. He is my hero.

It was pretty fun. We are lucky to have a great training facility in our state. What's really great is what you learn during these types of events. This is ran for fun. We don't keep track of time unless you really want to but there is no prize or winner. It's done so you can get out and run your gear to fine tune your setup. It also let you test your endurance. This was one of the hottest days we have had this year and the only rule is no walking. I won't say anyone stuck to that rule through all three events. It's also a chance to socialize with like minded people. Even though I've trained around a lot io these guys before I still get a little nervous being the only girl running the courses. They were all very supportive and helpful. We did pay an entry fee but it was very small and covered dinner and a patch.

Congrats, Compass! That is so neat!

I don't have any pics of *me* shooting (since I go by myself almost always), but can I share a target pic from today? I picked up my new toy, an M&P 9 full-size last week. Shot it while visiting Cleveland last weekend and taking a friend shooting, but this was my first time with a full session.

5 yards, 2 full mags (32 rounds) - this is the best I've ever shot. I was very happy. This pistol is a dream to shoot.

I did the MAG-20 (Massad Ayoob Group) live fire portion this weekend (legal classroom portion was in the spring). I did the class with my M&P 9 I'd only shot two times before.

This is me with my target from a drill using a very low crouching position, such as you would use behind cover. I've never shot this well before ever at 10 yards. My low and left issues seem to have been solved. We did groups of 6 rounds.

Congratulations to you too !!!

Side note/Hijack.  In 2008 my then girlfriend accompanied me to a 2-day Combat Focus Shooting course with Rob Pincus.  She helped load my mags for a little bit (yea!!!)  LOL.  Then Rob calmly took her online alone and she fired her very first shots and decided she kinda liked it !!!

2 years later I bought her a NIB Glock 19, sat her down Christmas am in the living room when we were alone.  I handed her the Glock 19 case after preaching to her about the importance of this and the deep feeling of love I felt for her.  She was just anxious and excited to open the case and see the pistol.  Inside it was her engagement ring box.  I thought it was a unique way to propose to her.

Sad note, I am still trying to schedule time when I can finally take her to shoot her NEW pistol !!!!

Again, Congratulations to you both !!!

Hey Flattop, sure, happy to give an AAR. First of all, the MAG-40 course has been split into two sections for those who can't afford to set aside a week for the MAG-40 course. MAG-20 classroom is the legal portion - "Armed Citizens' Rules of Engagement." Mas is the only one allowed to teach the legal course. If you can't swing the $800 for the entire thing, the $400 for the legal portion is the way to go. Mas' website has a better description than I could give.

http://massadayoobgroup.com/mag-20-classroom/

The legal course is 10 hours each day for a Saturday and Sunday. I came away with 40 pages of typed notes (I took my notes on my laptop).

The MAG-20 live fire portion has really helped with my shooting. First of all, you have to understand my formal shooting training has been minimal. NRA Basic Pistol, two hours with an instructor the very first time I shot, and then an hour's coaching with another instructor. That's it. IL requires 16 hours of training for your CCL, but I was able to get 8 hours credit for my Basic Pistol class. We have a live fire qualification, but there's no real instruction unless you're a total noob or really can't hit the "big as a barn door" B-27 target. I shoot a lot on my own, usually 2-3 times a month at the range, but it's indoor and 90 minutes at the most. I've been having low and left issues, especially with my 9mm Shield (which I carry).

We started off Saturday with a couple of videos with Mas talking about basics, such as stance, grip, etc. Another one on safety. We then went out onto the range. We loaded our mags with 6 rounds each. We did this for the entire course. The instructor had us doing some basic shooting so she could see where we were. We worked on stance, trying out the different ones to see how they worked for us. We did the "blind swordsman" to determine our natural point of aim. We got into stance and sighted our pistols, we then closed our eyes and pulled the trigger. The results were interesting.

We also did the exemplar drill. This helped me hugely. First mag, the instructor's finger was on the trigger over our finger, and the instructor was the one who applied the force to move the trigger. Second mag, our finger was the one on top, moving the trigger. I don't remember the difference for the third mag. But it REALLY helped me to see what I needed to do correctly. And I did it.

On Sunday, we moved out onto the floor of the range. As I've only shot at indoor ranges with walls in between shooters, being on a small private part of a regular range, with shooters on both sides of me pretty close, was a little unnerving at first. This was where we tried different positions for shooting - a very low crouch, as if you were hiding behind cover, a high knee position (one knee up), and then low knee (both knees on the ground).

We would then have done one handed and off handed shooting, finishing up with a police-style qualification. However, the instructor was feeling very ill and so we ended the course. It was a small class and we're going to do the couple of needed hours one evening.

I highly recommend the course. It will be interesting to see how I do this coming weekend when I go out to the range myself. Practicing with the different positions can be done with dry fire at home.

Photobucket.com
Hunt101.com

These two are just some of the free resources out there. TTBOMK they don't allow you to edit photos however.

My strong recommendation for the ability to edit pictures is Irfanview.com It's an excellent tool and free.

Welcome to ARfcom.

Both of the above suggestions allow you to keep pics private unless you provide the exact URL in your post, in case that is a concern.

Yeah, that was an issue.  Now, when I try to add a pic to the post it gives me an error message saying something about it exceeding 2000 characters or something.  Thought I was fairly tech savvy but I'm starting to feel a bit slow...

I've never used Pinterest, but that long scrolling URL is too much for the ARfcom software. It also seems to connect with a Photobucket picture.

My suggestion is to use Photobucket and when you look at a particular picture in your folder it should give you some URLs that you can use to link to it. Use one of those instead and see if that works.

Whoa! Not sure where all the pinterest code came from.  I started a photobucket and have tried what feels like every possible combination of link/code/clipboard copying into both the body of the post and using the image posting icon and it will show up as an image when I preview, then just end up as a link when I submit the post.  I've followed the instructions from this thread in every way I know how.  Is it because I don't have a paid arfcom account maybe??

No, it shouldn't have anything to do with a paid account or not.

Here's a gun-related pic from my public Photobucket account just as a reference to how to post it here.

The above is copied from "Direct" shared link option on the right side of the Photobucket webpage. To make it show up on the page, you choose the "insert tags" option that looks like a mountain with a circle in the upper right (4th icon from right) which adds "img" in square brackets to the above URL.

See if that works for you. If you choose "quote" for this post you will see it below.

Ah huh! I never knew that. But those rules didn't exist when the forum was founded and you and I joined up!

Sorry to our new member.
