ATTENTION TO ORDERS-
The Triad Battle Buddies Troop 556 will be holding a Battle Buddies hike on May 24th. We will be meeting at 2:45pm at Marketplace Mall on Peters Creek Parkway and doing a 3 mile out and back on the Salem Creek Greenway. This is an effort to build on the Battle Buddies concept the NOVA dudes came up with to get people up off the couch, active in life, fit, and active in the preservation of individual rights through civic engagement. Hell, one day you may be hard enough to be a Cola Warrior like me. Primary goal is to get some of us together, get our fitness on, and find out how weird we all in real life. Date and time: 24 MAY 2020, meet up at 1445, stepping off at 1500. Suggested location: Salem Creek Greenway at Marketplace Mall. Parking: 2101 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. I suggest parking on on LEFT side by the Dollar General. This puts us right by the trail head. Trail is a paved / gravel path that we'll hike 3 miles out and back for six total miles with target pace of 17-20 minute miles (3 - 3.5mph) including all rest stops. Guidelines are the same as the American Battle Buddies (see below). 35lb ruck for beginners / old / broken, 45lb ruck for novices, and 55lb+ ruck for meat eaters, masochists, and berserkers in great shape that still have functioning knees, backs, and shoulders. We need at least three people on the hike so there are two witnesses for each person that's rucked up and meets the pace requirement of 17-20 minutes miles to count toward a third class qualification (again, see below). No helmets and rifles since we will be in the middle of Winston-Salem. CCW A-OK. If you don't have a ruck, don't sweat it. If you are out of shape and can only go a mile at a slow walk, don't sweat it. If you can only carry 10lbs in your ruck, don't sweat it. If you can only go one mile an hour, don't sweat it. Just come for the hike. Do what you can. Everyone starts somewhere. There are 13 days between today and the hike to start moving individually, so make good use of them. Move around for at least 30 minutes in some way at least three times a week as a start. The primary goal is to get like minded folks together to socialize, have some fun, and see if we can't do something like this on the regular. Not trying to smoke ourselves...yet. That time is coming for those of us who have been doing these. We go rain or shine unless the rain is a deluge that threatens to have the creek overflow the banks. A stray shower we can work through. Please RSVP via posting 100% IN. ***If we have zero RSVPs on the poll by the time of the hike, I will still be there, working on not being fat.*** |

Don't see why we can't make it, China flu will be well calmed down by then.

Sounds fun... too bad I'm not in NC... I'd never be able to keep up anyway...

My hope is to get onto an every other week schedule.
Y'all that work weekends, let me know if you prefer Saturdays, or if you have a set weekend schedule so we can try and set these up so the most amount of people can make it. |

Ive been trying to get in on this. Maybe I will make it this time

I'm in. Any chance we can move up the step off time to around 13:00? If not for this one then maybe in the future. I'll have about a 2 hour drive each way, just trying to avoid driving/getting home as late.

I'd like to branch out into other areas as well to try and get more folks involved. |

I'd love to get you qualified for APC and help you get a group going there. |

Too far for me, but good luck!
Take pics of the railway yard on the north end of the Greenway for me. Thanks! |

If I were closer, I’d be in.
I need to find some battle buddies up here in Detroit. |

One week warning!
There is still time to get moving and get prepared for this! |

You will be missed.
Would it make it easier for you if we did this Saturday mid-mornings? |
|
Bump
Looking like the rain will end Friday, and we'll have a high around 80 on Sunday. |

Quoted: We are definitely going to have to move these to mid morning once summer is in full swing. Pretty sure I would die trying to ruck at 15:00 in July/August. I've also been toying with moving them to a different area, where we'd have a lot more shade. I know Salem Lake has a road around it we did once, and it also has a lot of trails in the woods if we want to start doing stuff that is a little bit tougher. I'm also game for trying different areas to make it easier for other folks to join in. |

For those coming, it's going to be warm, so be sure to bring water and hydrate well before you get there.

I’m going to miss out on this one guys.
Hope to catch you on the next one or sooner! |

I don’t know what moron thought we should do a hike at 3pm when it’s the hottest time of day, but we should up and survived it anyway.
Attached File The heat did take a toll, especially around mile 5 for me. Hopefully everyone who made it posts up about their experience so we can get even more at the next one. Which will be on a Saturday. In the morning. Before it gets to the heat of the day. We’ll probably also try out a new route that will keep us in more shade, too. |

That was definitely more challenging than I was expecting, but it was fun. I can feel where I used some muscles that don’t normally get that kind of workout. My phone says I took 14,000 steps. Looking forward to the next one.

In for more Papaw Boog goodness! We have two guys in the Puget Sound area who are 1 hike away from 3rd class. That will probably happen next weekend. |
