I know that literally everything that goes bang is not allowed in NYC.

What IS allowed in NYC?

A bolt action precision rifle?

Sometimes we have to do dirty things in order to make money.  And sometimes living in NYC is one of them.

Absolutely. You have to have a permit to purchase or possess a rifle or shotgun, and once you get it, it must be registered. About 10 years ago, NYC outlawed the possession of any semi-automatic rifle that would accept a detachable magazine holding more than 5 rounds. So-called "assault weapons" were already banned, but the NYPD paid visits to all registered owners of M1 carbines and made them either immediately move the guns out of the city or give them up to the police.

You can own a muzzloading antique pistol or long gun without a permit, and it does not have to be registered. But if you also possess the materials necessary to shoot it, you are in violation of the law and are guilty of a felony.

Understood.  Hell, I spent a year in Bosnia to bank a little coin, get out of debt.

I'd probably move back there before I'd move to NYC.

What?

Surprisingly, there is a Beretta Gallery in Manhattan, and it has shotguns available.  It's near the SE corner of Central Park.

Beretta Gallery on Madison Ave

The disclaimer on their website "Please note that, due to New York City laws, the New York Gallery does not have handguns on display."

When I lived there I was able to order (and have delivered right to my apartment) Colt Draggons from the American Historical Foundation.  Once those made it through, I got myself a SS Ruger Old Army.  As someone mentioned earlier, you can own a black powder firearm, but don['t you dare have any blackpowder (or substitutes), or percussion caps at your disposal.

NJ gun laws are just as bad if not worse... I was arrested (16) for a Crossman pellet gun.

I'm coming from CT so, sadly, it's more of the same, just worse.  I'll have you know that TX was my first choice but I was not selected after several attempts of employment there.  I think I will focus on getting to FL instead in a year or two..
