Well, those suckers did it. They approved me for $500.00.
Every day since I got the card in the mail(ok, it was yesterday) I'm SO tempted to run over there and snatch up another rifle or shotgun, or BOTH.
Now, I've bought 3 new rifles in the last 2 weeks, and I'm trying to hold back, but I've got a craving I can't control. I NEED something new!![:D]

What should I get next??
I'm thinking maybe an autoloading 12ga, like an 11-87 or something. Or maybe a Rem 700 in .308 or 30/06. Or maybe just a Rem 870. Or maybe a couple more 10/22s so I can make a gatling gun.

I don't know what to do!!!

TreeTop,
Don't limit yourself to whats in stock.
Go back and get the special order man to show
you all the stuff they can get.

Happy Shopping!

P.S.

HaHa!! I just picked mine up a few nights ago! That was one of the three I've gotten in the last 2 weeks. The Henry lever-action .22, another Mosin-Nagant(shorty/folding stock project) and a Ruger mini-14 that I pick up on Thursday.

I got the Henry so I could have a reliable repeater for Aguila Colibris, since they won't cycle an autoloader.[:)]

TREETOP,
Check with your Wal Mart and see if they still have one of the Beretta 391 synthetics in stock, a couple of months ago most stores received two of them priced pretty nice ($599 if memory serves me right). You can also get a pretty sweet deal on a 597 LSHB (around $239) or even a .450 guide gun ($458). These have been my favorite shelf guns for about the last 6 months. Or if you wanna spring a little more the Winchester X2 is around $790.

If you go for a bolt gun just remember the Weatherby Vanguard isn't made by Weatherby it just wears their name, the damn thing is made in Japan or China I forget which one.

Cravings are bad.  I know of people who have bought 5-8 handguns, 4 long guns in one year (we're talking about $500+ price range for all)

Oh, did I mention that the H&R Ultra SS1 is a sweet gun? I picked mine up last week (.22WMR). You can get that one for $138 and some change, laminated wood and all!!!

GSG9, By any chance does Wal-Mart have some sort of online catalog?
I'd like to go in tomorrow and look through the special-order catalog, but I'm afraid I'll buy something right then and there. [:D]

TREETOP,

We don't have our own online catalog but I can help you out a little here. If you check out www.internetguncatalog.com you might find something you like, this is the online catalog for Sports South, one of Wal Mart's suppliers. Just keep in mind no assault weapons of any sort rifle or shotgun and no handguns, Most everything else is available if you just give them a model number and say that you think Sports South carries it. Also Henry, Ruger, Winchester, Weatherby, Browning, and a few more will come from Lipsey's but a good sales associate will know which distributor to call.

Hope this helps you a little.

red man=incorrect.
Lawn Dart=correct.

I do a lot of my regular shopping at Wal-Mart. Not because of the prices. Not because of the selection. Not because of the employees. Not because everything is easy to find.

Because they sell guns!!!
They're the last "discount" store to carry firearms, and I'm going to continue to support them as long as they do.
K-Mart no longer sells guns.
Target also used to sell guns.
Remember Gemco? Yup, they sold guns too.

Not anymore.

Only Wal-Mart has the guts to still carry long guns. They don't always have what I want, They don't sell handguns or "assault weapons" or "high capacity" magazines, or .50BMG ammo, and their sales staff is often stumped by simple questions, BUT THEY STILL SELL GUNS!

If I need paper plates, or napkins, or soda, or chips, or flashlight batteries, or whatever, I'd rather give my money to a company that realises guns are not evil. Even though there's a large grocery store right around the corner from me, and Wal-Mart is 15 minutes away.

I hope you guys arn't that blind to what WAL-MART really means to America.  They buy up cheap property, usually wet lands and destroy small communities whereever they go. They get tax breaks and create new minimum wage jobs for the kiddies. The biggest problem is that they destroy whatever small community based businesses are in their way, some even sell gas nice and cheap. (Its a loss leader just to get you all to shop there)  I know its convenient, I know its cheap but next time you think about buying something like guns from them think about why they still sell them.......its not because they share our views its because they make MONEY!!!!  Thats my $.02

KlingtonHtr,

Everyone is in business to make money.  Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.  I'd love to patronize many of the small businesses in my community.  Just wish they'd be open evenings and weekends!  My experience has been that people, myself included, will pay a few % more at a local shop if they get the service that local shops USED to be known for.

Having said that, I will agree that MalWart is overbuilding.  There are 3 of them within a 20 minute drive of my house.  Seems like overkill and they serve to strain an already overloaded infrastructure.
Link Posted: 3/14/2001 6:44:41 AM EDT

Yeah I totally agree with you, like I said I still shop there because its convenient. I try to stay with the local businesses for certain items (guns, appliaces, sexy outfits for the wife, lol etc.)

So what your saying is that WalMart is only in it for the money?
Whoa, I`ll be on the lookout for those money minded business from now on.
And I`m getting real tired of getting things cheaper than I used to get the same product for.
And all those senior citizens working there are probably useless anyway.
Good points I`ll keep shopping at Wal Mart. BTW Montegomery Wards used to sell firearms, Sears too, Fedco. Lots of discount stores have folded to the left.

Hey TREETOP,

One of the guys on the board (I'm so bad with names... sorry!) brought his Weatherby 7mm magnum that he purchased at WalMart.  He said they don't usually display them but to ask what they had in stock in the back.  He said because they are in storage sometimes they'll have some superficial rust or scuff marks and you can get them to discount the price on them.

I'm just saying that, after the FAL, that weapon gives me the screaming thigh sweats!!  [:D]

[UPDATE]

Man, you guys shouldn't have let me go there alone this evening!!
I figured I'd make the drive up there since my GF needed some Pepto(she's sick[:(]), and why not check out the rifles while I'm there, just to see what they've got in stock right now.

To make a long story shorter, I bought a Savage bolt action rifle in 30/06. Composite stock, blued finish, no sights, cheapo Simmons 3-9X scope, etc.

Cha-ching! $362.43.

I couldn't help it.

It was either that or the Weatherby, and they didn't have a Weatherby in stock in 30/06. I liked the feel of the Weatherby a tad better, but the Savage looked a little cooler to me, plus it already has mounts for optics, and I can put the scope it comes with on one of my other rifles.

Anyway, this is my first 30/06, I felt like I was lacking something for long distance. I mean I've got 2 rifles in 7.62X54, and one in 7.5mm French, but I wanted either a 30/06 or a .300winmag. Something a little more mainstream.

I get to pick it up in 10 days, just in time for my birthday!![:D]

treetp, Walmart will special order you just about any long gun you want.  They just don't publicise it.  The Weatherby Vangaurd you like was made by Howa on weatherby tooling and production ceased about 5-6 years ago but it is a great rifle.  If you want a Savage in 30-06 go back and order a Tactical for about $410-$425 w/o scope.  I got one for my buddy and it shoots 3/4" at 100yds.

They've told me that it takes at least 2 weeks for a special order to come in, then I have to wait an additional 10 days after that.
I'm a little to antsy for that.
I did see the "Tactical" model in the special order book, it looks nice. They didn't show one in 30/06, though, only .308 and some others.
I just get over-eager sometimes and want stuff right away.[:D] It's bad enough I have to wait the 10 days.

Hey, buddy!  I know that antsy feeling!  It's the Sickness...
I have an idea for you.  Go buy a LOT of ammo from WALLYWORLD, and a few other Neato-Jet items for all those other things you already have.  Sometimes, it's more fun to feed the hungry than to take on another starving child, ah, er, something like that!
OR, you could go in everyday for a week and use that card one day at a time.  OK, that probably didn't help...

I may speak the truth but you my friend are FOS! If all Wal Mart sales is blemished weapons then there must be a shitload of blemished guns in stock at Sports South, Lipsey's, and Gene Sears. Not only that there would be blemished weapons in every caliber and every model just sitting waiting to ship out to Wal Mart. I also know for a fact that Wal Mart's firearms markup is less than half of what you are saying. It may also be useful for you to know that when guns are recieved they are inspected and logged (notice the little white sticker on the stock), at this time most blemishes are found and sent back to the respective distributor.

How do I know this?
I'll tell you.
For nine hours a day five days a week I am surrounded by Wal Mart firearms!

TREETOP,
The typical wait is less than a week but we say 7 to ten days to keep the over anxious out of out hair. Thursday night I ordered an 870 SP camo and it arrived Tuesday. The long wait is on short production guns like the Winchester Legacys and Henry Golden Boys, you typically wait a month or so for those.

I THINK IT IS GREAT THAT WALLMART SUPPORTS THE SECOUND AMM. BY SELLING GUNS BUT THEY WILL NOT DO SO FOREVER.  THEY ONLY SELL PC GUNS AT LOW PRICES THAT HURT YOUR LOCAL SMALL SHOPS THAT TRY TO PROVIDE NON PC FIREARMS.  PC GUNS IS THE MAJORITY OF THE FIREARMS MARKET AND SMALL DEALERS NEED THESE SALES.  THAT IS WHY YOU CAN EXPECT HIGHER PRICES AT LOCAL SHOPS. I SHOP WALMART BECXAUSE THEY SELL GUNS BUT I BUY GUNS AND AMMO FROM SMALL DEALERS.
I ONCE SAW A WALMART EMPLOYEE FILLING OUT A 4473 FOR THE HISPANIC CUSTOMERS AT THE COUNTER. I POLITELY INFORMED HIM THAT HIS ACTIONS WERE ILLEGAL OUT NOF HEARING RANGE OF HIS CUSTOMER AND HE SCOFFED AT ME BUT SECONDS LATER I HEARD A PAGE FOR MANAGER ASSISTANCE OVER THA PA SYSTEM.

I don't really think that there is such a thing as a PC gun. Sad but true. [:(] - but PC is a load anyway.
--

The way that business works is that if you do not do something different or better than the other guy then you will probably not be in business for long.

Any smart businessman would quickly realize this and adapt.  For the reasons that we all know Wal-mart has already ceded a large part of the market (handguns, military style rifles, used guns) to anyone who wants it.  There should be more than enough of a market for those products for someone to be very successful.  They don't have to give up on the new rifle sales either but they NEED to offer something that Wal-Mart doesn't or can't.  That could easily be experience or customer service (there aren't that many GSG9s out there) even this is severely neglected by many gun stores.

If someone really wants to stay in business they will but they need to work at it.  They should not need or expect me to prop them up by buying 10/22s or Mossbergs from them.

If you feel that you are getting something from your shop that Wal-mart can't give you then buy from them, others will make a different decision, and many do enough buying that they can spread it around a bit.

I also think that large retail stores that sell guns get many people into gun ownership, shooting, and shooting sports that would not have otherwise been. - They have also been doing it for a long time (not the same players).
