"We cannot afford, simply to save political face, to pour money into this black hole while real public safety and security needs are left wanting," he said. Auditor-General Sheila Fraser found the gun registry program had spiralled out of control and could hit $1 billion by 2005. She said she could not complete a full audit because of a lack of information made available to her officials, and Runciman said an internal audit ordered by Justice Minister Martin Cauchon is inadequate. I can only hope that the wisdom of his words doesn't fall onto deaf ears. |

What a two faced self serving future politician.
Chief Fantino was one of the biggest supporters of bill C-68 IIRC. All this oposition is great but everyone is saying scrap it,put it on hold,etc until an audit is done,till they figure out why it cost so much. No one is saying scrap it because it never has and never will work. Fantino see's the writing on the wall and is trying to use it to his advantage.[puke] |

Kudos to Fantino for speaking out sensibly. Now, if we can get our own bureaucrats, politicians and LE chiefs to think the same way... But what are they talking about? Ballistic fingerprinting which makes even less sense than registration. :mad:

I'm not up on Canadian politics. Has this been brewing a long time or is this a quick surface deal? Can you post a link that shows the outline of the bill, law, whatever it's called. I've spent alot of time working in Canada and know about the handgun laws but am clueless on this deal. Thanks! |
