My new SIG 229 has what appears to be laser etched serial numbers and markings.
My question is, how durable are these and will they wear off with time, cleaning, holstering etc... ??
What's the advantage to them vs the rolled or stamped markings ?  My guess would be cost.

I covered up a Sig number using Norrell's once. Totally filled it in.

I noticed that today at a gun shop.  I guess it would be illegal to refinish the gun since the Serial # would be destroyed ....

I didn't even consider the refinishing angle to this.

I have an M44 with an import mark like that.  Looks like cold-blue from Walmart would make it disappear.  It's only an import mark, so I guess there's no harm in trying...
