How would you go about LEGALLY importing a firearm from another country?

A buddy of mine wants to bring his grandfather's rifle over from Mexico, didn't know what to tell him

Looks like it has to be imported through an importer still

What companies would help import 1 privately owned rifle?

Personally I would use Hansohn Brothers in VA, he's a member here under username HansohnBrothers.

Bear in mind an importer will have to engrave his info on the gun so if it's a collectible and doing that will devalue it, take that into account before proceeding.

He imports a lot of stuff from Britain and occasionally South Africa, and probably a few other countries as well.

Talk to Wilhelm, but he's away this week I think.

True, but they can usually put them in a space that's not too ridiculous. The importer's marks must be conspicuously placed, so they will be visible, but they have a choice of where to put them.

Duffy's used to stamp their import guns where the stock could hide it, but some years back ATF said no to that. Now they try for an inconspicuous, but not hidden, spot.

I have two rifles that Duffy's imported. They marked the underside of the barrel on both. Tastefully done.

I have a rifle Simpson Ltd imported as well. They do a very small, tasteful, marking on the receiver.
