Only one way to know for sure.............One......Two....Three....
Count out 20 or so and weigh them, then weight the whole bucket, minus weight of bucket, do math. Had I seen the bucket wasn't "full", I'd have guessed 1k less.

There's an easy way to find out.
Weigh a similar bucket. Weigh 10 rounds (individually, not together) and average the weight. Weigh the full bucket, subtract the tare, and divide by the average per-round weight, and propagate your error. |

I know for sure that 1900 rds of 357 SIG fills a 50 cal ammo can.
357 SIG ammo is basically the same size as .40 S&W, so I would guess that there is about 2.5 50 cal cans worth of ammo there. So my guess is 4750 rounds +/-. |
