I've had four back surgeries and I can say the best thing that works is just walking a realigns your hips and back

Also Aleve works really good for over the counter meds

Modern lifestyle makes the core and postural muscles weak from disuse. Do some compound lifts.

Pretty sure your back has nothing to do with that.

Yes too much sitting on your ass can cause lower back pain, especially if you don't do exercises to strengthen your core.  Walking helps, as do the stretches for sciatica pain.

My dad has had a bad back his entire life. I told him it was probably from weak muscles being strained and that daily moderate exercise would fix it. He didn't believe me. Low and behold he gets a new cute Doctor that tells him he should try to walk 1000 steps every day and she's going to check his Fitbit to see if he's doing it. Now his back is all better at the age of 70 all because she's such an amazing doctor you know.

Start taking walks. Once you're core is strong enough, start doing some lifts.

48 here. As mentioned:

Core and back exercises.

Walking (lots of it).

Stretching - I do 10 minutes of full body stretching daily. Sometimes twice a day. That 10 minus has given me so much flexibility that I've lost from sitting at a desk all day.

Yoga (not just for women). There's a couple of really good yoga for me routines on YouTube. They will kick your ass until you get good at it. But it will help strengthen your core and back.

Get a damn good chair. I was killing my back with the $120 Amazon chair. Plus they wear out fast. My wife convinced me to drop $800 on a Haworth chair. That cured 90% of my back pain a week after I started using it.

I was in the hospital for 11 days thanks to cancer and the coof. They wouldn't let me up and walk around except to the bathroom and back. My legs are weak as shit so I'm trying to get my stamina and strength back.

Wall squats are relatively light exercise that can help with strengthening legs and core. It's not a lot of exercise but it helps get started from 0.

This.

Quit not doing things for a while, work out all the time.  You cannot quit ever, accept that fact and embrace it.  On vacation in a hotel?  Work out that back.  Busy around the house?  Work out.

Make sure you work the right muscles, and concentrate on good form over weights and reps.

Limber up, man.

Stretch every morning and I bet you notice an immediate difference.

You don't necessarily need to build muscle unless you're pulling them lifting heavy shit AFTER stretching.

I've taken one yoga class, I was early 30s and fit AF.

The 70 year old female instructor had me trembling in a puddle of my own sweat.

That's what I do and it helps.
You need to know when you might have an injury and take it easy or go see a doctor.
As soon as I am better I will start back with the weight training to help my back.

Walk, a lot, maybe light jogging but not too much shock to the spine to start with.
Heat pad in the evening.
Inversion table.
Swimming is also good, low impact, takes weight off the spine & muscles.

Indeed. I'm still going for surgery, but it's been a godsend.
