Does anyone have the details on what George Bush (father) did by executive order prior to the crime bill? I believe it was to ban the import of about 12-15 foreign made guns, including AK's, Uzi's, and AUG's.  This came up in a topic in general discussion, and I need to verify.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, 18 USC 925(d) gives the Secretary of the Treasury authority to approve the importation of semi-auto firearms which meet a "sporting purposes" test.  The Secretary though, has the discretion to determine what constitutes "sporting".  The EO by Bush Sr.  merely directed the Secretary of the Treasury (and thus BATF) to re-assess and tighten their sporting purposes test by which they determine what is importable.
