How do you military types do it?

Is it like a constant "FAP Fest" or what?

This year will be our nine year anniversary, four or five of those overseas (cumulative), just started another year assignment last week.

I hear you.

It is a very sad statistic.

I may catch flack for this but it is a very good reason why we should not have soldiers abroad. It is not bashing what you guys & gals do, it is more my compassion for that service & sacrifice.

Imagine if our original ideal of not having a standing military was our reality now...

Yep.

When we'd come in from the field for shower runs when I was at
FT Hood, the 1SG always used to brief every group that left the
AA.

"Keep your marriage together. Make that courtesy call so the missus
can get Jody out of the house."

He wasn't kidding.

Ya know, I love my alone time without my girlfriend. But God forbid I don't call her every 10 minutes while we are apart, then I'm the worst man who has ever been in her life. Women are crazy.

Your situation makes my point.

I am saddened for your time away from loved ones. Thank you for your sacrifice.

I used to live over near the airfield on the east side of Ft. Hood, in post housing. My neighbor was with 1st Cav and did a 6 month rotation to Kuwait or Kosovo (don't remember). The second or third day after he left, his wife had some guy coming over all the time and I think he'd sometimes stay over.

I turned down a great paying job in Africa because it would have taken me away from home for 3 months at a time, 2 times a year.. I couldn't be without my wife for that long, hell I miss her when one of us gone for a night or 2....

Call me an asshole or a rat, but i'd be more than happy to provide that soldier with a heads up and some video/picture evidence.

Have you read my home defense thread? I've thought a lot about it, but she has her positives.

I feel the same way. To me no amount of money is worth time away from my wife & children.

Less than 1% of the population actually in uniform in any capacity, and half of them are reserves.

We really don't have as big of a military as people make it out to be.

Most of the budget is spent on buying and maintaining equipment that you can't just call up on short notice.

I'm not a service member, this is just part of my career. The distance sucks, but in reality there are a lot of jobs in the states that keep people away from home a lot too.
