How should this overflow be adjusted?  I noticed yesterday it was pointed down at a 45 so all the condensate was going into the overflow bucket (no floor drain).  The bucket was full. I emptied it yesterday afternoon, it was 1/2 full this morning.  So it's been basically draining onto the pit floor since June when I turned on the a/c.

I tested the condensate pump by filling the overflow tank and it seems to be working.

Eta:  I lowered it a little from this position.  The overflow outlet is below the a/c drain holes, but above the horizontal portion of the primary condensate drain.

My first question is: is water actually getting into the condensate pump.

As for the overflow, my SWAG would be to find the height of the pan inside the unit and adjust accordingly.

Still sounds like you’ve got primary drainage issues if it’s filling a bucket from the overflow

When the overflow was angled down nothing was getting to the condensate pump.  100% of the condensate was going out the overflow.

I raised it to where the picture shows it, decided that was too high, and lowered it slightly.  Now the condensate is going to the primary tank and is getting pumped out.

I'm wondering if there is a 'right' place for it.  I don't really know how deep the pan is inside the unit, so if the overflow is too angled too high can it damage something inside?

I suggest adding a water detection alarm to the overflow bucket.  They are fairly inexpensive and could help avoid a bucket overflow.  On new installs, at least around here, there is a float valve in the overflow that will shut the A/C down in the event of an overflow.

If I were to take a guess, I’d say that the pan isnt much taller than that barcode sticker right above the drain pipes. You might could see about taking off that tan panel for a look-see. Otherwise I’d set the top of the first elbow about in line with that barcode sticker. Check your work after a few days and adjust accordingly

My system has the condensate pump on one like yours, but the other port goes to a T fitting that has a float switch that shuts off the compressor if it fills up.

I'm not sure how that overflow would even work correctly.  As said, the pan probably only goes up to the barcode height. Any water high enough to go out the overflow is probably more likely to dump down inside the furnace.  

The condensate pump I used had a vented lid. If yours does also, that overflow is useless. Put a plug in the hole and let the pump handle the pumping and overflowing if a failure occurs.

The u shaped part can clog. Mine is clear so I can see when to clean it.  It even has a flip cap for cleaning.
