Looking at some of these locally as a 3rd car with 4 wheel drive, they cost $4,900 to $8,000 with under 150,000 miles, much cheaper than a crew cab pickup of the same vintage.  Anything I should know about these?  How is the 6.0 for reliability and mileage?  Do these have common problems at this mileage like the Chevy fuel pump death?

The LS based 6.0 is rock solid.  200k plus is no issue at all with regular maintenance.  Mileage will not be that good though.  You will probably average around 13.  It's little brother the 5.3 is much better in that regard.  I have never had a fuel pump issue with the 5 LS powered vehicles that have been in my family over the past 12 years.  Some early pickups did have a fuel tank venting issue, and i'm sure it extended to the suburbans too.  It will basically cause your fuel tank to collapse as the fuel is pulled from it.

I only drive Chevy trucks, and have since 1997. I currently have a '99, '04, '10, '11,  '13. For whatever reason 2002-2003 were bad years for 4x4 Chevy's. Everyone I know with '02-'03's, including myself, has had problems with transmissions and transfer cases. Burbans' are bad ass!

The fuel pump in my 01 Tahoe 5.3 went out this year at 140K.
The LS engines are rock solid, few issues here and there but very manageable.

Guys use the 5.3 and 6.0 bottom ends (and even heads reworked) to build high horse power cars, pulling a truck around is childs play for them.

Asking about gas mileage in a 6.0L gasoline-powered, 8,500 lb. vehicle seems somewhat counter intuitive.

Very reliable.
If gas mileage is a concern, then don't get a 2500, and don't get a 6.0

Shit my 6.0L 2500 HD is a beast. Add cat back and a intake and they wake up quite a bit.
