I just re-downloaded Adaware, version 6 now and ran it. It found 53+ bad things and removed them.

Then I noticed and ran the update on the Adaware I just downloaded and it found 23 more... eeks!

I was flicktid!

Install the Google toolbar, it stops popups!

I use Mozilla Firebird, no pop-ups!

Spybot search and destroy works great too.

Google it, you can DL it for free.

Another vote for the Google Toolbar. I use it with IE, and get NO pop-ups. It does cause problems with some online shopping sites that use a pop-up for the shopping cart and so forth, but you can turn off the pop-up blocker for that site, finish your transaction, and then tunr it back on. Work good, last long time.

Remember when we had to actually buy porn?

I miss the good old days, when the worst that could happen to you was blindness and hairy palms.

All this internet stuff really complicates matters.

i work as a computer/network technican...  i only recommend spybot.  run it once or twice a week if you are active on the internet.

some pop-ups you just need to live with and close as they come up.  everytime i go to the national review it launches a pop-up or two but this pays for a website i use and enjoy.  the pop-ups that originate from spyware installed on your computer is different and spyware will eliminate these...

pop-up blockers increases the probabilty of software compatability problems.

The only real solution would be to make popups a violation of the Patriot Act.  Or maybe amend the 68 Fireams Act to require registration of popups and let the ATF get the buggers.

www.opera.com

Set it to only "open requested pop-up windows only" under file/quick preferences. You'll never go back.

spybot/ad aware doesn't work on the 'only the best' ads :-/

I second the nod to Opera.  This is the best browser I've ever used.  The last two times I've run Adaware, it found NOTHING.  IE can suck it, it's a magnate for all sorts of nasty stuff and it's a shitty browser.
