Man-Portable/Vehicle-Mounted .223/37mm Shielded Weapon System

Being unemployed, I've been tinkering around for the past week...

It started with some inspiration from the video game “Army Of Two”.
The main characters use weapons equipped with shields.
I thought these gun-shields were an innovative, if not entirely practical, idea.

The functional components: a railed AR, Havoc 37mm Flare Launcher, Beta C-Mag...

To fabricate the main shield piece, I started with 1/4 steel plate, and torch-cut it to match my cardboard template.
(Disclaimer: It is fabricated of mild steel, not armor plate, therefore not designed for combat use.)

Using a die-grinder, I cleaned up the openings, then put two horizontal bends in it to increase deflection angle.

Side pieces cut out and tacked to the main shield, ready for welding.

Here it is just after welding:

Mounting to the free-float quad-rail via Picatinny attachments, the gun-shield shouldn't affect accuracy.
It has ample clearance around the 37mm Havoc launcher to facilitate reloading.
Due to the increased weight, I added a molded plastic grip with horizontal & vertical gripping points.

MAN-PORTABLE:

After having completed the above, I thought adding a stowable bipod would be a nice feature.
Before long, that idea changed to giving it vehicle-mounted capability.
Mounting via the rear hitch receiver, it has a vertically adjustable pedestal.
I went the quick route, not fabricating a true pintle/cradle or T&E.
The inner pedestal tube  allows 360 degrees of horizontal traverse.
Elevation is from horizontal to vertical, but with no adjustable/locking elevating arc bracket.

The pedestal had a bit too much play, so I incorporated a stabilization bracket that attaches to the tailgate and snugs up with a wing-head bolt.
The stabilization bracket incorporates a “keeper” that the rifle grip sits on.
This limits movement of the weapon when at rest.

Who likes picking up brass?
I added a 50cal ammo can/cradle to catch ejected shells and a 3” ABS plastic chute to direct them from the weapon into the ammo can.
Wearing a respirator, I heat-formed the ABS to better interface with the ejection port and clear the C-mag.

VEHICLE-MOUNTED:

I hope you enjoyed my “Tailgunner” project.
The system hasn’t been test-fired yet, so I may return with an after action report & more pics depending on response.

What do you think?!

Cool project.  You must be unemployed right now.  You need to have a buddy drive while you man the gun.  Head out to Walmart, and give us a report when you get out on bail.

I saw something similar done w/ a browning 1919 semi auto, a while back.  I do not have picture though.....I'll just go ahead and post it for you.

OP...that is freaking cool, about how many hours did it take to complete.

I may be wrong, but isn't there some legality issues with fireing a gun from a vehical?

I'm not trying to be a buzzkill

after playing that I game I wondered how long it would take for some one to make one of those shields. I think it looks awesome even though it has no practical use. you make a couple of the flip up bullet proof masks and I'm in for one. haha

Wow, thanks guys, lots of good responses!

To Renegade13B's question: "I may be wrong, but isn't there some legality issues with fireing a gun from a vehical?"
I LIVE IN ARIZONA

To R_Fury, It took about 3-4 days, but not a full 8 or 10 hour day.

You may be curious why I didn't put a forward facing gun above the cab of the truck...

Well, my toolbox & fuel cans kinda get in the way, but maybe a .308 would look good up there.

Hmmm. . . .

That is sweet.

Take that type of ingenuity, add some motivation, and I wouldn't expect you to be unemployed for too long.
Side note; Did you fabricate the fuel can rack for the bed of your taco? If so I might interested in something similar depending on where you are located in AZ.

He makes everything. I think he might of fabricated the whole truck! Seriously though - I have seen his entire rig in person, and it's even better than it looks in the pictures. If you want something fabricated for your truck, this is the guy to do it.

Very awesome!

But aren't you afraid of being sued by AAC, Robinson, or ARMS now that you are in the gun business?

Just don't name it.
